“Outdoors & Recreation in AZ”
The Hot Well Dunes Recreation Area is located approximately 35 miles from Safford (the nearest city with all services including hospital). The area is generally accessible by all types of vehicles but the road can get rough at times, so be prepared to take it slow. Once at the site be aware there is no electricity, drinking water or phones available. Also if you plan on having a fire we encourage you to bring your own wood due to a very limited amount available on site. Both tubs at Hot Well Dunes operate during daylight hours thanks to a solar pump funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Three hot tubs last time I was there, and some public restrooms. Expect lots of sand and lots of folks to bring their "sand toys." Camping is nothing more than a place on the ground and expect to be near another camper, without much privacy. The hot springs are nice, but don't expect them to be peaceful with the four wheelers and sand-rails going until all hours of the night. We last visited on Easter weekend and we could have sworn it was the Daytona 500 from 6 AM to 2 AM every night.
