“Attractions in Rothsay, MN”
Prairie Chickens have one of the most memorable mating “dances” in the animal kingdom. The male stomps his feet while releasing a “booming” sound which is triggered from his puffy orange sacs. In honor of this interesting chicken a 13-foot tall statue was erected in Rothsay, the self-proclaimed Prairie Chicken Capital of Minnesota for America’s 1976 Bicentennial.
Easy on/off us-83. Great photo opportunity. Worth the stop.
Excellent place to stretch your legs. Its right off the interstate. There are 3 panels explaining the statue.
We got great picutes of the chicken trying to "peck" my head.
Awesome. The chicken is actually at 1st st NW and old highway 52.
What a great place to stop!! Thank you to the people before me to point this out
It’s a big prairie chicken! Why not stop and stretch here!
Right by the highway! Perfect place for a photo and a stretch!
The chicken is RIGHT off the interstate, which is honestly ideal, and there is a gas station nearby. The chicken has multiple panels which explain her origins, and there is a small gazebo (I think?) area where you can sit for a moment.
I thought it was very charming, and my puppy enjoyed playing with all the dandelions in the walkway leading up to the chicken. Definitely recommend!
It's so close to the interstate, it's worth the stop and photo op!
A quirky roadside stop if you're passing through the area! Stretch your legs and learn what it means when a prairie chicken "booms."
Right off the expressway- park across the street, has station in exit as well.
