“Enjoy the manmade lake”

Theodore Roosevelt Dam, the first major structure constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation on the Salt River Project (SRP), spans the Salt River to form a huge reservoir. The dam is 280 feet high and 723 feet long. Once the largest man-made lake in the world, Roosevelt Lake is still the biggest of the six SRP lakes and offers the most recreation opportunities. When full, the lake covers more than 17,000 acres near the confluence of Tonto Creek and the Salt River. Game fish in Roosevelt include largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish and crappie. The Lake contains a wildlife area and as a wildlife refuge, is posted to permit hunting at certain times of the year. The Roosevelt Lake is reputedly haunted. Many claim that the manmade lake was built on top of an Indian Burial Ground, and the displaced spirits roam about the lake to this day. The experiential aspects of these hauntings typically include an uneasy feeling. Gas or ghosts? You be the judge.

The good: its real close to a boat dock, if you're looking for that.

The bad: Seems unfinished. Also seems to be run by someone that doesn't really understand what is needed in an RV park. The park only offers public bathrooms for the boat dock, no showers. Additionally, we had an issue with grounding in our site - the maintenance repair man was super rude. He began the interaction incredulous that anything could be wrong.

Additionally, the RV park reservation process itself is weird, took several phone calls to reach anyone and the people you speak to are affiliated with the convenience store.

My opinion is that someone had some land in a good location and though - how can we get more revenue out of this land. Its not approached at all from a perspective of how to have a nice campground.

We had no trouble finding the Marina. Quick, easy and courteous check in. We were assigned the exact site that I reserved. Our site was electric service only but water and dump station were conveniently located close by. We had a beautiful lakefront view on three sides as we were located on a peninsula (site #2) and a fishing dock a short walk away. Every site gets a cement slab and fire pit which we appreciated. We missed having a picnic table but made do. The bathrooms were very clean but no showers which was not a big deal for us either.
The Marina had a store and restaurant and bar. Seriously just a 10 minute walk. They had a great menu and staff there as well.
Our only draw back was the lack of a picnic table but would definitely come back!

Great place to stop at and spend a day relaxing on the lake. We stayed in our campervan here and it was beautiful. Everyone was extremely nice and accommodating. Would go back.

Once passing through the Salt River Mountains, you’ll slowly begin ascending into the Sierra Ancha where you’ll catch incredible views of Theodore Roosevelt Lake. For a longer stay at the lake, stay left and stay on SR 188 to cross the Roosevelt Lake Bridge before turning around and heading back to the junction with SR 288. The lake, the result of the National Reclamation Act of 1902 which allowed federal money to be spent on massive reservoirs such as this one, was dedicated in 1911 and named for the president who pushed for the passage of the act.
