“may the forest be with you”

You never want to think that your camping trip isn't going to be the quaint, cozy and relaxing experience you plan on it being. As much as you want to hope it will be storybook perfection, it doesn't always work out that way. At least, unless you book a stay at Maryland's Treehouse Camp At Maple Tree. Because they've got a Hobbit House you can stay in, and it's literally right out of Hobbiton. From the round door to the whimsical, rustic decor (they've even planted flowers on the roof!) to the secluded location in the forest, you really will feel like you're in Middle Earth. The Hobbit House comes with all the amenities you'll need to have a thoroughly enjoyable (but not too exciting) stay: queen sized beds, a wood stove, electricity, a grill and large, hand-crafted dining room table for your first and second breakfasts, a porch, and more. The fact that it's partially subterranean means it's kept cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter (score!) and it's even pet-friendly! Of course, you'll have to use a little bit of imagination, but don't be surprised if Gandalf comes knocking on your door! Not a Tolkien fan? That's okay, too! Maple Tree Campground also offers tree cottages, rustic tree houses, and tent camping sites as well. Each cottage and house has different ammenities and can sleep varying amounts of people (some can even fit up to 12 people per house) so there will definitely be a place to accommodate your needs. Plus, the campground backs up to the Appalachian Trail-- there's no better way to treat yourself while on a long hike than with a stay in a Hobbit House or tree cottage-- and is only minutes away from Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, Antietam National Battlefield, and tons of other attractions. Basically, it's the total camping package! -Roadtrippers Twenty acres of beautiful woodland, backed up to the Appalachian Trail on South Mountain provide an ideal setting for year-round camping and hiking. The seclusion and peace and quiet of our campsites offer a relaxing atmosphere to "Get away from it all." Maple Tree Campground is located near Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and is close to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. Our unique lodging includes Tree Cottages, Tree Houses and Tent Sites equipped with fire circles, picnic tables and charcoal grills. Camp facilities offer newly remodeled bathrooms, private outdoor showers, garbage disposal, pavilion and a camp shop stocking firewood, charcoal, ice, frozen steaks, salmon steaks, chicken and other foods and items you may have forgotten to pack. Over the years the campground has enjoyed many visits from boy scouts and girl scouts, as well as youth groups from all walks. A 10% group discount is extended to all scout groups and all groups over 25 individuals; given as a refund after 'leave no trace' check-out. Our camp pavilion makes a great setting for family reunions, birthday parties, corporate team building, film festivals, music, dancing, church services, day camps and much more. We have had many magical weddings over the years where the party booked the entire campground for the weekend, enjoying the extended time with family and friends. Our pavilion comes with a beautiful view and is furnished with a small stage, electricity and a large adjacent cook house.

Great place to stay with a range of options, even in winter. The Appalachian is within walking distance but it's a pretty steep uphill hike. The amenities are pretty rustic but it's camping. The good sites book up pretty fast and there are a ton of creepy crawlers, think spiders and stick bugs, but this is one of our favorite spots!

Absolutely lovely place in a wonderful valley in Maryland. Probably the most unique place I’ve ever stayed, which is definitely a cool thing. The owners were super nice and accommodating for us arriving past check in hours!

This is a great place to relax. They provide many options for your stay from tent spots to large tree houses. They also provide a place to shower and wash your dishes. It does get very dark and very quiet at night so be prepared.

It's all pretty rustic, so remember sleeping bags and lanterns, but you can't beat this place for the atmosphere. Extra pretty in the fall. And... they've got a freaking hobbit house!
