“the Oldest Cabin in the World”

A house made of dinosaur bones referred to as “the Oldest Cabin in the World.” It was featured in Ripley's "Believe It or Not" as the oldest house on Earth. The bones came from Como Bluff, the famous dinosaur area  where Cope and Marsh had their late 1800's dinosaur "Bone War". The cabin is on  old US 30, the "Lincoln Highway" and is a short trip of a dozen miles or so off I-80  at the Medicine Bow or Mcfadden exits. It is worth the visit to see the bone. The  fossilized foot pads of the large dinosaurs is interesting. Building has a $3 admission if you like and a minor display of a few odd ammonites, and other fossils of the Shirley Basin/local Eocene.

Well, this was an interesting off course trip. The museum does not exist on the course the app provided. Checked the website, it's in a different state and it's closed looking for a new manager. Sounds like quirky fun though. Still laughing. Would be funnier if we weren't so far off course

They are working on it. I don't know if it will be moved or if they are trying to stablize it. We were there at the end of September 2021.

We came a long way off our regular route to come see this in July and unfortunately, it was closed and fenced off all around, with "private property" and "no trespassing" signs. There was a very large crack in the wall of the cabin and it looked derelict, possibly unsafe to enter. We were really bummed we didn't get to go inside and learn more! If you're in the area (which is unlikely to happen, given its distance from just about anything) it's worth stopping to look at and stretch your legs, but I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to see it. Heading from the west, however, we drove through a very large wind farm to get here--hundreds of wind turbines--so if your kid is a windmill freak like ours, it may be worth the jaunt!

Unfortunately we went there today and it was closed. It looks like it is getting moved or fixed up.
