We tent-camped along the way and one of the state parks we camped at was Copper Breaks. We stayed at the top of the canyon and it was beautiful and peaceful. The tent sites are well maintained and they are close to a bathroom. There was much birdlife in the park. We saw and heard so many bobwhite quail, a roadrunner, lark sparrows, rufous-crowned sparrows and many others. Watching the sun come up over the canyon was spectacular.
Super nice park rangers there. Not a huge place for hiking or exploration, but nice if you just want to relax. Windy too, so be prepared for that.
Really liked this park. It's quiet, well maintained and has a pretty nice little network of trails to hike on. There isn't much around the park, just small towns, but if you are looking for a place to enjoy a rural setting and some peace and quiet this could be it.
Verizon was 4G and pretty fast 5mbps, ATT was non existant

Staff very friendly and helpful.
Park locks the gate 10pm -7am so if you are an early riser or late arriver, adjust accordingly.
Comanche campground sites ar all flat, wed and easy to navigate.
Lots of birds and bunnies. The "Dark Skys " were covered by clouds the night I was there so can't comment on that.
Will visit again despite the restrooms not being clean.

Nice park with well maintained trail system. Swimming and fishing 🎣 on a nice lake. RV campground a ways from the lake but still walkable for those like us that don't want to unhook the truck for a 1 night stay.
Another state park that requires a purchase of a day pass along with the camping fee. I reflected this in my price paid above.
Dump station is by the bathrooms in the campground loop and dumpsters are provided a couple of places along the loop.
Our dark skies we illuminated by a full moon 🌕 which was magnificent!

We stayed at the Comanche campground St. Patrick’s Day weekend and absolutely fell in love with the State Park. Shortly after arriving/check-in we went with the Park Rangers to feed the longhorns. It was such a unique experience and my kids loved every bit of it. The longhorns are very gentle and are good with dogs being around as well which was an added bonus since our dog goes camping with us. The park is well maintained and is a good place to just kick back and relax. Our kids played at the playground located in the Comanche campsites and were able to just be kids which was awesome. We also fished at Lake Copper Breaks and Big Pond. Both were great spots to just hang out and fish. Our favorite fishing spot was Big Pond though since it is a little more secluded. We highly recommend this park to anyone wanting some quiet time and looking for a place to really see the stars. With Copper Breaks State Park being an International Dark Sky Location the amount of stars we were able to see was breath taking. We will be going back soon!

Copper Breaks State Park is a relatively new facility, meaning it was built after the CCC worked on so many parks throughout the country. It was opened in 1974.
Copper Breaks has two areas for RVs: (1) electricity + water hook-ups, and (2) water hook-up only. Tent camping is allowed in both areas. I stayed in Comanche Camp Area, which has electricity + water hook-ups for $20/night. In addition, there was a day use fee of $3/adult/day (or $2/adult/day with the Texas old people's pass). There is one full hook-up site in the park, but it was used by a Camp Host during my visit.
The Comanche Camp Area has 24 sites. There is no physical or visual barriers between the sites, so it's easy to tell when the neighbors are coming and going. Sites 10 and 11 are directly across from the dumpster, shower house, and dump station. The shower house is nasty. DON'T EVEN THINK OF USING IT. Seriously, it has not been cleaned in a very long time.
The park is very quiet, has few visitors, and seems to be popular with the locals for boating and fishing. At less than 1,900 acres, the park is small compared to others, and this may be why it doesn't get many visitors. The terrain is "rolling plains," and the vegetation consists of mesquite trees (all less than 15' tall), cedars, cactus, and a few sunflowers. There are miles of trails, which seem to be well-maintained as the grass/weeds are cut frequently -- I didn't use the trails because walking in the 100 degree heat is not my thing.
The park is an International Dark Sky Park. After waiting through three days of very cloudy skies, we finally got some good photos of the Milky Way around 2 a.m. when the moon had set. The ranger and local volunteers put on a "Star Walk" evening once a month with talks about the various celestial bodies; and they supply a dozen telescopes for visitors to use. Unfortunately, during my visit, clouds obscured the entire night sky, and the 60 or so visitors at the event could see nary a star.
Cell phone coverage: I have an iPhone SE, and my connection AT&T ranged from -0- (most of the time) to 1 bar (only occasionally). My husband has an iPhone 8, and he had 2 bars consistently. Go figure.
This is a nice park, and I will return to it, but I gave it a "3" rating because there are no sewer hook-ups and the toilet/shower houses had not been cleaned in a very long time. It is sad that Texas is not spending the money needed to keep these facilities in an well-maintained manner.

No privacy in the sites and are very close to each other. Park has some nice views and is a certified dark sky park so stargazing is nice here. Would really have liked to have had some trees or something to separate sites a little though

All sites with hookups are in complete sun. Grasshoppers are everywhere. A few tarantulas seen.
of the 4 Texas State parks, this one (surprisingly) had the best fishing.
Nice hiking trails. 2 lakes.. The main lake and "the big pond".
