“Cocktails, Antiques, and Victuals”
No corporate design drudge had a hand in this warehouse interior, a Jewelry District pioneer. CAV is an acronym for 'Cocktails/Antiques/Victuals,' and patrons are surrounded by tribal rugs, African carvings, and assorted antiques (most for sale). Turkish kilims under glass cover the tables. The resulting bohemian air is not unlike Greenwich Village in the 1960s, complete with live jazz or blues on weekends ($5 cover usually). Attractive servers bring dishes prepared by folks quite accomplished at their craft. Select from such strenuous menu swings as pistachio-crusted crab cake with sriracha aioli and fried lotus root to the delectable overkill of roasted venison rack with grilled venison sausage, potato and fruit samosa, long beans, and anise-star demiglace. Every day brings a choice of special soup, appetizer, pasta, and a crispy thin-crusted pizza or two.
