The Fillmore County jail was "authorized" by the Board of County Commissioners on September 5, 1868, when they resolved to "erect a new county jail for the safe keeping of prisoners." It now hosts multiple guest rooms including the following: Former sheriff’s quarters bedroom is now a comfortable guest room with a queen-size four poster bed. Natural morning sun warms the two wing back chair seating area in this room. The bathroom boasts a step-in tile shower. Rose Room; Formerly the room used by the Sheriff’s family. Today the queen-size walnut accented bedroom set and two wing back chair seating provide a pleasant setting with a yard view. Sleeping for two, three, four or five friendly inmates in two queen-size beds and one twin bed in semi private jail cells provide a real sense of incarceration. Two wing back chairs and a color television with jail related videos help set the tone for a “slumbering in the slammer” experience. A bathroom with some original equipment and additional amenities such as a two-person whirlpool and step-thru shower keep you from wanting to “escape.” And many more rooms.
