“Camp on the shoreline!”
Set on the shore of Rich Passage, Manchester State Park makes the perfect getaway for day-trippers or Puget Sound campers on a Kitsap Peninsula road trip. Military and maritime buffs will find intrigue at Manchester, known for the large brick structure that was once a torpedo warehouse. The term “torpedo” was used to describe underwater mines in the early 20th century, when the fort was built to protect the shipyards at Bremerton. Middle Point, as the fort was called, housed an underwater mine field and was a Navy fuel station during World War II. These days, the photogenic building, with its stone fireplace, weathered beamed ceiling and windowless arches, has become a coveted wedding venue, reunion site and picnic spot, against a forested backdrop of maple and Douglas-fir. Located near Port Orchard, Manchester includes 2 miles of hiking trails, but the park’s main attraction is its 3,400 feet of saltwater shoreline. Kayaking, swimming and diving (bring your own gear) allow visitors to take full advantage of this classic beach park with a view of Bainbridge Island and even Seattle on a clear day.

Sites are nicely spaced with a good amount of foliage for screening. Not all sites were very level, but many were. Some sites would be okay for big rigs. Immaculately clean restrooms and pay showers. Dump station on your way out with potable water. Only one bar of Verizon and an intermittent two with a booster.

The park is very heavily wooded which makes the sites more private although they’re not very far apart. Trails and beach area are nice. You could entertain yourself without leaving the park but we ventured out to enjoy cute Port Orchard and also took the Bremerton ferry to Seattle. Staff was great and helped us with an electrical issue at our site. Friendly people!

We stayed on the upper loop and had partial hookups with 30 amp service and water. Many of the sites are pull through and level but there are a few sites like site 15 that have steep grades where I saw a long & low camper backup and head home. We later saw a long class A that had no issues with site 15 so depends on your rig.
Most sites have good privacy and all appeared in good shape. No issues with the electrical either.
The campground is close to Port Orchard with your Starbucks', Walmart and many small local businesses.
Regarding cell service, my wife on Verizon had 1 bar with decent connectivity whereas on t-Mobile, I had 1 bar with issues accessing the internet at times.
Overall a nice Washington State campground that we'll probably visit again next year.

Since I’ve been in Washington, I’ve tried to really see what’s out there and one of the ways I really enjoy doing that is hitting up State Parks and this trip I’ve got a great one to share with you!
Manchester State Park is located in Port Orchard Washington. You can get there by driving and or taking the ferry, which I did this time to the park and back.
No doubt at the end of the year, this park will rank near the top of my stops in 2023!
Here’s the 411 on the trip:
One night after taxes it worked out to be $40.00 dollars
I stayed in site #47… The site was easy to get into, close to one of the bath houses and had good separation between sites
Cell service was good. I was able to use my phone all trip. I have AT&T.
The facilities: The park has 35 standard campsites, 15 partial hookup sites, a dump station, 2 restrooms, and 2 showers. Maximum site length is 60 feet (limited availability).
Campsites are reservable year round up to 9 months in advance

Lovely park with so much history around. The beachfront, the views of Puget Sound with Mt. Rainier in the background are great plus there are trails around to explore too. Definitely a nice area for an afternoon stroll or to spend a couple of nights camping.
