“Simple seasonal food in a gracious manner”
Legume is a family-run restaurant located in the North Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The original 34-seat Legume opened in 2007 in Regent Square with the goal of serving simple seasonal food in a gracious and friendly manner. In 2011, Legume moved to its current, larger location. Having more kitchen space allows the cooks to do more in-house processing such as whole animal butchery, grinding of grains for polentas and pastas, and preserving large amounts of vegetables for winter through fermentation and canning. The crux of our cooking is to stay connected as much as possible to our local food shed throughout the year in order to minimize the use on industrially-farmed foods in our cooking. Legume raised $17,195 from 89 backers in Kickstarter. Check it out here!
It's on the pricier side for what it is, but it's still worth stopping by, even if just for appetizers or dessert- the menu changes frequently. The cocktails are consistently excellent, though!
