“16,000 square foot Playhouse”
Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse, located in East Fairmount Park, has been a treasured destination for over 100 years. Smith strives to be Philadelphia’s foremost resource for play by providing opportunities for unstructured creative play for children 10 and younger.
The Playhouse opened in 1899 as part of a movement to provide structured playtime to urban children. It's one of the first of its kind, and is 16,000 feet of pure play space for children under age 5. The house holds all kinds of attractions, including a play kitchen and tricycles. The grounds, 6.5 acres of fields, woods, and hills, are also home to a playground with over 50 pieces of equipment where the older children can play. The best part is that it's completely free, even the parking! If your kids need a break between the mansions and museums, this is a great option. They don't have any food options, so be sure to bring your own snacks.
One of my favorites!
The playground is huge and so different. Every kid finds something to play.
They are still renovating the playhouse. Once this is done, the place is even better.
There are restrooms, but be aware about the hours of operation.
