“An RV dreamland since 1978”

The Escapees RV Club was founded on July 4, 1978, by Joe and Kay Peterson. There was no grand idea of what the club would become; it was started through Kay's column in Woodall's Trailer Travel magazine. She asked the question that, if a club was started to help people enjoy full-time RVing, would anyone be interested in joining? She received a couple of dozen responses and began to think big. One day there might be one or two hundred people in the club! Today there are over 32,000 member-families. Those who joined the club were immediately asked to suggest a name for the club. Escapees was submitted by Harry and Peg Lewis, SKP #22. The name Escapees was chosen because it signifies escaping from the conventional lifestyle to a more adventurous one. The acronym "S-K-P" (say it fast and it sounds like Escapee) was adopted, and many members began calling themselves SKiPs. It has become a commonly used nickname.

The wind was as fierce as anything I can ever recall experiencing, and I in my tent was luckily just tipsy enough to only be mildly frightened of whether or not I'd be sucked into a tornado and strewn randomly about some nearby corner of Oklahoma.

Literally, the tent was flattened to the ground. I was riding a scooter some 1100 miles and nearly at my destination. I was certain it would be gone come the morning, toppled over and broken. Somehow, I fell asleep.

I'm the morning, I was pleasantly surprised by an exotic zoo just next door. That's where the ostrich, head down, tail feathers in the air, wings outstretched like giant bar room snacks, he bobbed back and forth, pecking at the fence.

I had been alone on the road for sometime, and must admit to wishing I was a female ostrich just then...

The day I landed here it was windy, hot and dusty, but that is the southwest. This is a very old town with a lot of history. There are museums and an old town that must be experienced. The park is full most of the time as are most RV parks in the oil rich areas of Texas. The oil boom has brought many people to the area. This park is older and has been added on to. There are plenty of good non-corporate restaurants to enjoy a meal.

Only two over-the-air TV channels, no cable, WiFi is driven by Tengonet and is really slow.

Given theOil boom we were lucky to find a spot between Bowie AZ and Big Spring. There is definitely no ambience here however they did have a decent laundry room. Spots were extremely tight we could hardly put out our slide. I’d recommend stopping in Van horn if headed east.

This was just far enough off the freeway to be quiet. The office manager was really friendly and kind.
We have a very small trailer with only a 110, and there was only 30 and 50 amp outlets. I guess that isn’t a common issue. We searched the town for an adapter bit none to be found.
We ended up asking a gentleman next to us to let us plug into his outside 110 and he did. In this park of big RVs and 5th wheels, our tiny trailer looked like the casita or gardening shed!
The bathroom was really clean but the showerhead was pretty bad in one shower.
Everything is gravel. There was a small pad outside though.

Wish there were more places like this along the major highways. Easy off and in. Just a few blocks off the freeway, but traffic noise was minimal.

LEVEL gravel lot, with LONG wide pull through, so I don’t need to unhook/rebook the toad. Every part of the place was CLEAN as a pin.

Nice laundry room is location of the late check-in kiosk: We Arrived at dusk and left early, so didn’t get door code for the bathroom & shower.

There is a big community center across the street, so traffic congestion may be an issue on event nights. Could offer a fun outing too!

This place is a great one night stopover. No shade, but good level sites and full hookups. Picnic table is on a slab. Easy to access from the interstate. We stayed here one night at the beginning of our trip and we returned again on the way home. We will be back

A nice stop to break up a long drive across west Texas. It appears only half the park is still in use and only a handful of people here. But the space that is open is very well kept and clean. The manager is friendly and the showers and laundry room are kept sparkling clean. This was the main reason we were here so it was a nice surprise. There is a nice, new dog park within walking distance as a bonus!

We didn't check out the town much except a stop at the two well known restaurants; Pody's BBQ and La Nortena Tamale factory with were worth our time! Reception on AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile was enough for video streaming and working with no boost. Price reflects Escapee member price. Anyone can stay here however for a slightly higher fee.

When the wind blows snot, as we used to say while sailing, this is a great campsite to pull into. Plus, it’s the only one in the area that allows rentals by the day/night, not by the week.

Theresa and her husband are doing a great job of upgrading and improving TraPark. There are several easy pull-through sites, and campsites for long-term stays are being phased out. A brand-new $14 million recreation center sits right across the street.
