Itasca State Park was established in 1891 and is the oldest state park in Minnesota. In consists of 32,000 acres and more than 100 lakes. It is also where the Mississippi river starts as it makes its way 2,552 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. The Park is heavily forested with towering pines and has many historic sites to explore. Outdoor recreation activities include hiking, biking, fishing, boating, swimming, wildlife viewing and winter sports.
