“For the best view - walk the 0.3 mile heavily out and back trail”
This rock is an arch in the shape of an elephant. It is right next to the road, but parking is limited on Valley of Fire Road, it is best to park in the nearby parking lot and take the trail to reach the formation.
I went to Las Vegas and hated it. Then we drove out here and had the best time ever. It's a photographer's paradise. The petroglyphs are really amazing, and it's fun to find certain ones. Sort of an anthropologist's Where's Waldo.
So if you're in Vegas, and are tired of the crowds and the sleeze, this is the perfect day get-away.
Totally worth the round about drive. Pictures do not do it justice.
I visited in July of 2019 and wanted a short detour on my way to Provo, Utah. I did not realize at the time that Elephant Rock is located in Valley of Fire State Park which is outside of Vegas. Elephant rock is located at the end of the park, but the drive through and other rock formations seen along the way are spectacular. It is not a "quick" trip at all, so if you have a couple hours (at least) to spend, do it!
There is a parking lot near Elephant rock and you can do an easy short hike to it, or it can also be seen and pictured off the side of the road.
Everything is marked clearly. Located in the valley of fire. No hiking required for this one
