“the perfect alternative to the local college bar scene”
The downtown Opelika staple, Eighth & Rail is the perfect alternative to the local college bar scene. Not only are they the only venue that provides live music four nights a week in Opelika, but they also serve the best fresh sushi in the area. Eighth & Rail was started by Richard Patton and K. Cooper Ray in 2002. Mike Patterson re-opened the venue in 2012 with the vision of providing an entertainment option for a more mature and diverse clientele than what was being offered in the Opelika-Auburn area. Patterson is originally from Columbus, Ga, but he moved to Auburn in 1993 to attend Auburn University. After college he started a career in the local restaurant industry for 16 years as a manager and owner. He moved from Auburn to Opelika in 2003, and after living here for nine years, felt that he should take the opportunity to open a business in Opelika to be closer to provide an entertainment option for the community that he lives in and loves.
Place is cute and vibe is super friendly. Music was all locals. Sushi was not bad, but not as good as general review stated.
