“Raising their hands in praise”
Joshua Trees were named for the Biblical figure from the Bible by Mormons, who thought they looked like a man raising his hands in praise to the heavens. Unusual looking indeed, they're one of the few non-coniferous evergreen trees with dagger-like leaves instead of the more typical shapes one might see. While most known for their abundance in Joshua Tree National Park, here you can roam amongst them freely and without the crowds that a big park tends to gather, or just drive this scenic route and admire them amongst the Sierra Nevadas from your car.
These natural sculptures are fantastic to see while driving pass Route 178. They seem like groups of giant people standing between the bushes and waiting for someone to pick them up. At least this was the feeling my family had when we passed right next to them.
Moreover they are biblical figures, they add beauty next to the asphalt road.
It is a very pleasant scene to look at while rushing on the road.
Stop by and take some photographs!
