“one heck of a cat complex”
Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium’s mission is to promote and encourage recreational and educational activities, research and conservation. The Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is a zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, located at 3701 South 10th Street. It is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums and a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Its mission is conservation, research, recreation, and education. Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is nationally renowned for its leadership in animal conservation and research. Evolving from the public Riverview Park Zoo established in 1894, today the Zoo includes several notable exhibits. It features the largest cat complex in North America; "Kingdoms of the Night" is the world's largest nocturnal exhibit and indoor swamp; the Lied Jungle is one of the world's largest indoor rainforests, and the "Desert Dome" is the world's largest indoor desert, as well as the largest glazed geodesic dome in the world.
The jungle dome is really freaking amazing! I would have loved to spend a whole day in there, but unfortunately we didn't get there until 2 or 3 hours before closing. We will definitely have to come back again(even though it's 8 hours away!) at some point with the kids. I wish we had had time to see the aquarium..
I have been here several times already. But this zoo never fails to amaze me! There's always something new whenever I go back. The biomes were really awesome. The desert, rain forests and oceans seemed so real. It's like being outdoors, but you're indoors! Now, how cool is that? And there were even animals walking right next to us. If you have a favorite animal, chances are they have it here. Expect a lot of walking, though. On the other hand, I personally believe that at the end of the day, all the walking is definitely worth it. Giving this place a visit is definitely a must!
It's been said here already and it's true. This is the best zoo in the western hemisphere. I've been to other big zoos and most tend to have more shops than animals. That is NOT the case at Henry Doorly. The number of exhibits is just unbelievable. It's even worth a trip even in the winter as there is the Lied Jungle building, the Desert Dome with Kingdoms of the Night underneath, the huge aquarium, a gorilla enclosure with adjacent primate buildings, and a big cat complex that are all inside (and more inside also). This is a must see if you are close or just driving through. Give yourself some time, there is a lot to see.
It is absolutely massive! They even have a chairlift to get from one side to the other. All in all I would highly recommend stopping in here but make sure you spend a full day as it is a lot to take in!
I was dive bombed by bats in one of the buildings!
I am basically repeating what has already been said... this place is amazing! The dome is awesome, desert on top and nocturnal animals underneath - big hit for the bat lovers in our family!
We were there for five hours and couldn't see everything. The Skyfari helps when you are tired of walking and you can see some animals from the sky that way. FANTASTIC ZOO!
We have traveled the country by car several times and this zoo is worth a day’s stop. One of the best stops in the country! This time we discovered the kingdom of the night under the desert dome and found a female sloth. My 5 year old was ecstatic!
Overall it was pretty expensive, however, the kids loved it. The domes were both very cool, as was the ski lift.
Probably the coolest zoo I have ever been to, and we have traveled all over the west coast and central states. The dome was amazing, the aquarium was awesome as well. Tons of animals and neat little attractions. We spent 5 hours at this zoo and my daughter did not want to leave yet even though she was exhausted. If we had more time we would have stayed longer but we got there around noon and they close at 5.
Really nice zoo. A whole lot to see, though it's better to visit during summer time as there are more activities that way and more animals outside. With 15 dollar entry it's basically a steal as to how much you can explore and see.
Amazing zoo!!!! Must see!!!! We live 6 hours away and this is our 4th trip!!! Love it!!
