“on deep lake!”

Millersylvania State Park is an 842-acre camping park with 3,300-feet of freshwater shoreline on Deep Lake. The park, filled with trails, is abundant in old-growth Cedar and Fir trees. Millersylvania was constructed almost entirely by hand in 1935 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Deep Lake, located on the property, attracts boaters, swimmers and fishermen. The state capital is a few miles north of the park.

The campground still has the charm of when it was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1935. The lack of updating the narrow roads and campsites make the main loop unaccessible to RVs. However there is an RV loop in a open meadow and two rows of pull-through sites in the trees. The roads are narrow and getting into the RV section was tight. Some of the pull-through sites in the trees might be difficult for larger trailers to get into.

The park also has a cabin and several glamping tents available for rent. Fishing and non-motorized boating are popular activities on Deep Lake. We enjoyed kayaking and seeing the wildlife on the lake as well as photographing all the old buildings. Millersylvania has the charm and feel of a real campground that is missing in many of our updated and over-pruned modern state campgrounds.

SUMMARY: Millersylvania State Park is an old growth forest in a quiet park of Olympia. The park is idyllic, with old growth trees towering over you along a beautiful lake. The park lacks the updates of other modern state parks, which adds to it's charm.

THE GOOD: We snagged what seemed to be the best RV spot in the park. Site 202 sat along, surrounded by trees and nestled into it's own oasis. Please note: this spot is a challenging back in site due to wood barriers on an already narrow road. The park has a lake for fishing and kayaking, and beautiful walking trails in the forest. The park is VERY quiet and sits away from any road noise.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: The road are very narrow and lined with trees. Large rigs should stick to the pull through sites. We also did not see any park rangers while there, which we like to see for security when in new parks.

WHAT TO DO: This was a quick overnight stop for us on our way to a dealer for maintenance in Seattle. We explored the walking trails, but cannot speak for activities in the area.

CONNECTIVITY: Surprisingly decent internet considering the tall tree cover. We expected little to no service, but were able to connect to our VPNs and have a productive workday.

SITE RECOMMENDATIONS: 202! We loved this site. But any pull thorough site in the loop is still very pretty. If you are shade adverse, there is an open air RV loop (more like an overflow parking lot).

My family and I go here every year and it’s wonderful. Some of the sites are a little cramped so look for the more spacious ones. The small lake is excellent and never too cold. The hiking is usually great but that last 2 years they have had some pretty intense maintenance underway. People have figured out how cool this place is so it’s always busy and buzzing. Love this place!!

Just returned from this beautiful place during a heat wave. The first night we had water and electric. The site was basically a field surrounded by woods. With no shade, even with air conditioning, we couldn't cool down when it reached 90. The next day we went to a shady basic site, which was a bit of a squeeze. It would be fine for smaller trailers, but we managed. All the basic sites are spacious and well kept. The bathrooms are so so, but we had our own. The best way we found to beat the heat was the beer garden, run by a private vendor, which was not listed on the state site.
I would recommend this place, just be sure to snag a shady spot. There are several hook up sites with shade, you just need to check.

Working off Verizon hotspot to post this. Really a nice old growth campground. Seems that many reserved spots were taken, and the walk ins were basically wide open so had my pick. Other folks mentioned the trees and if you have double slides like me, might need to choose carefully. We are boondockers by preference and may not like this place when it gets busy, but off season it was nice and quiet. Showers were hot and free this time of year, and the bathroom was spotless for a campground. Noted a couple sketchy RV's that don't look like they move, seems to be the norm these days. There is a live in caretaker, and I met the Ranger when I paid. She was cheerful and speedy, but note they only open the office a couple hours a day this time of year. There was a phone that you can pay through 24 hrs or a self registration box.
Power and water included and there is a dump station, and even water available during the winter to fill your tank. What more does a camper need ? There is some road noise but it didn't bother me.

We spent a peaceful night at Millersylvania just a couple of days before 4 July. There were good sites unreserved when we arrived at 8:30PM and the one we chose had plenty of room for three tents—easily could have fit more. Kids played cheerfully but all was quiet a little after ten. No one played loud music, except some brave souls who left at 5:30AM. The bathrooms were fine and showers looked clean. I had Verizon service that worked well but I forgot to check how many bars. Definitely would recommend.

The trees are spectacular. Thick forest areas, good size lake, and some really nice walking trails. Price is a bit high for partial (only 30A) hookups, but the beauty, size and conditions definitely make up for it. Numerous large pull through and back in sites, along with a lot of tent sites here. There's a dump station near entrance that is a bit tough to get a large rig as close to as usual, due to the right hand curve it's on.
Definitely worth spending some time here.

We are tent campers, but we booked an RV site because one came available on a crowded summer weekend. It was actually a pretty good site for an RV site because it backed up into trees and had some shade. It was a HOT weekend so I felt bad for the other RV'ers whose sites were in the center of the small look with no access to shade. If you visit this park in an RV in hot weather, aim for the sites on the outskirts of the loop for the shade. We would have enjoyed the tent sites even more, we'll be going back to explore again. COVID warning though, the tent sites are pretty close together so keeping distance might be a challenge.

Several pull through sites. Fairly private with tall tree and foliage, hooked up to water and electricity. Very family centric. Opportunities for bikes, trails, nature hikes, swimming, boating. Nice day use area with concession stand, dock, small beach, picnic tables.
