“25 years in the making”
This monument commemorating the Oklahoma land run of 1889 was almost 25 years in the making. The tireless efforts of several visionary Oklahomans, generous contributions form a trio of initial donors, and extensive funding support from the city of Oklahoma City, the federal government, and the state of Oklahoma have ultimately resulted in a monumental bronze sculpture unlike any other in the world. ...
2 Stars - To much construction around it to enjoy.
Worth the stop! Monument sits along a beautiful park and waterway in the city. The address here is wrong. Monument sits south of bass Pros Shops not behind it. There is a large parking area that can be accessed south of the Bass Pros shops parking area.
Pictures can’t begin to show the beauty and detail of these wonderful bronze sculptures. This important time in Oklahoma’s history is frozen in motion forever. The faces show the emotion and determination of men and hardy women who are racing to claim new homesteads. I stood and studied each of the heroic figures and could picture myself among them; what it must have felt like to be part of the adrenaline-fueled crowd. Fifty thousand strong, riding horseback or wagon, from all walks of life, reaching for a chance to own a 140-acre plot of land.
Are you sure the Oklahoma land run was in 1998? Sounds too recent for covered wagons!
Still a little construction going on but well worth the stop. These large statues were great and kids got out to run around on the river walk. We navigated specifically to the river walk parking. Great stop.
I loved this stop during our cross country road trip! There's still a bit of construction going on, but the place is great! The whole canal is very well maintained.
Lovely incredible unique statue. Yes it's true that the store next to it and the construction does it really takes away from the Majestic..
It has been moved due to construction of a new road. A guy at Bass Pro Shop ( which is where these directions lead) said you can walk a trail along the other side of the river and see them scattered along a scenic ferry ride tour.
