“Free museum with fossils”
The Fick Fossil and History Museum in Oakley, Kansas shares a building with the community library. The Fick Museum is free (donations) and has a number of interesting large dinosaur fossils from Kansas, many old tools, mineral specimens, and shell & mineral folk art. Most of the exhibits have more info about who contributed them (looks like every one in town), then about the exhibits.
Lots to see. They have a lot of local history documented here. Lots of old pictures of high school parades, football team, special events, etc. There is no background music so it's a little awkward at first but there was lots to look at. Easily could spend two hours here if you wanted to pay attention to everything. We spent an hour and felt like it was enough for us.
This was a fun and interesting stop and just about 4 miles off 1-70. Located in the library impressive fossils and shark teeth. The art work made from shark vertebrae and teeth was really cool. Worth a stop. It's free.
It's free to check out their exhibits of fossils (seriously, when it comes to fossils, Kansas is super impressive-- who knew you could find shark teeth here?), bones, folk art, and more.
Great stop....lots of neat things to look at.
