We stayed here for two nights, while on our way to Kentucky, our final destination. Typical for many state parks, no one was at the main gate, so we had to find the main office by following the signs. The staff is very laid back, nice, helpful and led us to our spot. If you are driving/towing a large rig, be aware that the roads are narrow. To access our spot, I had to drive against the one way traffic to back into our spot. This was not a problem since it was the middle of the week- kids in school- there were only four other campers in the Yocona Ridge Campground. We enjoyed the solitude, quiet time in this park. Wildlife- geese, squirrels, deer were everywhere.
Our spot was on the lake and shaded. There are many trees to hang a hammock. One item to note for any fisherman, check the lake levels. At the time of our trip in mid-October, the lake was drawn down to very low levels.
We would definitely return to this campground for an extended stay. All of the sites are shaded and spread out, offering privacy, due to the distance between sites.
Water, sewer, 50 amp service is available at our site. The site is level asphalt.

Really nice campground. No one was in the traffic booth at the entrance so we proceeded to the campsite. Whatever you do, don’t drive your rig all the way to the Ranger office. You’ll be backing out a long way! We called from the campsite and checked in that way. Site 22 is level asphalt. Power, water, and sewer were all good. The scenery was great. I was up early and just as the sun was rising, about a dozen deer ambled through the camp sites around me. Very cool! Really clean restrooms and showers, too. When we go back, I’ll try for Site 26 or 27. Those looked to be perfect! Park staff were quite friendly so all in all, a really nice campground.

This is the second time we've camped at George P Cossar State Park, and it won't be the last!

There are two different sides to the park - Yocona Ridge (which is where we stayed this time) and Jones Creek (which is where we stayed last time.) It appears that Jones Creek is under rennovation, and so even if it's available, I don't yet recommend staying there. It will be amazing once they finish the cleanup and rennovations, but for now, the bugs and critters can keep it!

Yocona Ridge; however, is well maintained! Our spot (12) was near the bathhouse, and the bathhouse was clean and well-maintained. It's also near a nice playground with swings, a merry-go-round, a slide, and little rocking swings for younger kids. There are beautiful views of the water, and several spots have access to walk down to the water's edge which would be great for fishing!

The RV spots are fairly level with full hookups. Plus there are lots of other flat areas that are appropriate for setting up tents if you have extra guests or need extra storage. The whole campground is wooded which provides lots of shade and places to hang your hammock.

There was a fire ban while we were there, but the firepits looked very nice in general!

The park has a boat ramp, a miniature golf course, and a disc golf course. If you want to swim, you can take a 20-minute drive over to Hickory Ridge swimming beach (on the other side of Enid Lake.) For a $5 per car (?) day pass, you can swim or use the bbq grills for a lovely afternoon!

One of our favorite restaurants (Pope Country Cafe) is about 15 minutes away, and they are open 7 days a week and have the best biscuits anywhere we've eaten in Mississippi! There's also easy access to Batesville and Oxford without having to stay "in town."

We use AT&T phone service and have a T-Mobile hotspot. Both get fairly consistent reception in the Yocona Ridge section.

Campground is just okay. Sites are close together with no privacy. Road in is rough, very narrow, and windy; sites need to be repaved. Day users constantly in the campground, some doing the creep by in their vehicles to stare into campsites which is not appreciated. Full hookups are nice to have but we only needed one night (to do laundry). $32/nt +$8 reservation fee was a bit high considering there are numerous cheaper full hookup campgrounds within a few minutes. Showers were decent. Laundry $1.50 for wash and $1.50 (1hr) dry was very nice and had a credit card reader in addition to quarters. Won't return.

Situated on the shores of Enid Lake, George Payne Cossar State Park is a sportsman's paradise. Most of the land around the lake and in nearby Holly Springs National Forest is open for public hunting, and is abundant in variety of game. Hunters are not the only sportsmen who will find their quarry in the area. The world record crappie, weighing in at over five pounds, was pulled from the waters of Enid Lake. These excellent hunting and fishing opportunities, combined with a variety of recreational opportunities and scenic natural beauty, make George Payne Cossar State Park the perfect family vacation spot.
