“Some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery”
This mountain park is located nine miles north of Oakland, Maryland and contains some of Maryland's most breathtaking scenery. The Youghiogheny River flows along the park's borders, passing through shaded rocky gorges and creating rippling rapids. Muddy Creek Falls is a crashing 53-foot waterfall – a spectacular sight. Tall hemlocks dominate the silent woods. The 1 1/4 mile trail through Swallow Falls guide hikers to some of the most breath-taking scenery in Western Maryland. We love this park! Beautiful waterfalls with areas to swim when the water levels aren't too high. Not stroller friendly though. May be difficult for people who are not sure footed (handicapped/elderly). We spend hours here when we go :-)
Hands down the best state park in Maryland. And yes I have visited every single park in the state.
Great place to spend the day! We go once a year each August, and while the water is freezing, it is still so much fun. The water is deep enough for adults to stand, and there are plenty of kid friendly areas. The trails are pretty easy and you can spend hours there exploring.
