This bronze replica of Michaelangelo's iconic sculpture ''David'' is the work of the firm of Sabatino de Angelis and Sons, based in [[Naples]], Italy. In 1903, three years after seeing it on display at the Exposition Universelle in [[Paris]], Buffalo businessman Andrew Langdon purchased the statue from the firm, with the stipulation that no casts of the sculpture would be sold to any other American clients. Langdon donated the statue to the Buffalo Historical Society, and it has been on display near Hoyt Lake ever since.
