Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on August 07, 2021Absolutely beautiful location, water all around. We had awesome weather for late September. Super clean and quiet campground, but the gnats were horrible and we didn't anticipate how much dew there would be on everything in the morning...we were soaked! But it was worth it!
Very nice sites that are large. Most are wooded and offer privacy. Site 22 sits slightly above the water and has a little landing accessible by a small foot trail. We have returned to the site a few times to stay since it is so close to Traverse City, Leeland/Glen Arbor and the wineries.
Notes to mention: This is a rustic location and is treated similarly to "radio free" at night. Our neighboring site was ticketed for playing the baseball game on the radio at 7pm. We could just barely hear it, and not many campers were on site that weekend, but it is still enforced.

This park provides basic no frills camping at the tip of a wonderful peninsula. This is a quiet park with no hookups. The sites are mostly shaded and the tent campers outnumbered the RV's during our stay in October. Every site is close to the water and the lighthouse. The roads are unpaved. In other words, the campground is fine. The Leelanau peninsula is amazing with wineries, orchards, roadside fruit stands and gorgeous hiking in the sand dunes and along the impossibly blue Lake Michigan as well as the Grand Traverse Bay. The town of Northport is a ten minute drive south for a morning stop at Barb's Bakery. There are not many camping options on the peninsula and if you can do without water and electric for a couple of days, this is the place to be.

We’ve camped at Leelanau State Park 4 times. Although the majority of the 51 sites are not on the water, there are 8-10 that are, with maybe 10 others that are across the campground loop road from the water. Small campground beach area. There are 2 small cabins and 1 larger cabin to stay in also. Very quiet although it was full when we were there. Lake Michigan is beautiful here. Fantastic sunsets! Some hiking trails at land conservancy property near by and at Cathead Bay, about 5 miles away from the campground. Lighthouse near-by. They sell firewood and ice here. We had a couple of days of flies biting the legs and ankles, mercilessly, so we suggest a screen room to jump into. Cutters bug spray or Picaradin didn’t work on these pesky critters!

Rustic sites alongside Lake Michigan. Also plenty of beach access for campers staying in the wooded sites. Loved our spot in site 10, which was large and secluded. Daily activities for kids and adults led by campground host. Easy access to nearby trails. Would stay again!
