“Abandoned NASCAR legend”
This place is on private property. Listing for informational purposes only. Please do not visit without express permission from the land owner. Once a staple of NASCAR, today the North Wilkesboro Speedway sits nearly abandoned. Back in its prime the track was the place to see bootleggers race their souped up liquor cars against one another. It's final NASCAR race was in 1996 with Jeff Gordon winning. The track was also raided in 2009 for having an illegal moonshine still on the property. Whoops. The track made a comeback thanks to the Save the Speedway movement, but sadly things are quiet once again. Save the Speedway was founded in 2005 by Rob Marsden, and was started as a grass roots movement to reopen the closed North Wilkesboro Speedway which was closed nine years prior.
This is the ghost track of the good ol' days of Nascar. People are trying to revive her for racing again, but as of now it sits almost abandoned. Get permission before attempting to explore.
