“Enjoy a Variety of Activities”
The 1,445-acre Lackawanna State Park is in northeastern Pennsylvania, ten miles north of Scranton. The centerpiece of the park, the 198-acre Lackawanna Lake, is surrounded by picnic areas and multi-use trails winding through forest. Boating, camping, fishing, mountain biking and swimming are popular recreation activities. Lackawanna State Park is named for the county through which the Lackawanna River flows. The word Lackawanna, translated from the American Indian, means "the meeting of two streams." And indeed the 44.9 square miles of Lackawanna State Park’s watershed land contains the meeting of many tributaries that form the four main streams that flow to the 199-acre Lackawanna Lake. Today the lake is the main focal point of the park, but as the following history reveals, this was not always the case. The park is located in an area rich in local and state history. Within the 1411 acres of the park one can learn many stories. Stories that include ancient American Indian trails, enterprising pioneers, a turnpike road, a county fair and race course, an industrial coal operator and about a reverend who forever changed the future of deaf children in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Prior to modern transportation, many horse hooves and moccasins traversed the main road in the area, old Route 407. This route served as an ancient American Indian trail that connected the Lackawanna Valley to New York State. This route proved to be a vital link in the future development of this rural county.

Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on September 20, 2022This is a lovely state park in northern PA that is relatively close to Scraton and Dalton for easy shopping and amenities.
It has 3 loops, two of which allow pets. The loops are a mix of non-electric and electric sites. Since it is heavily treed (not optimal for solar), we opted for an electric site on the Fox Run loop ('second' loop).
The roads getting in are somewhat narrow, and currently plenty of detours from construction. The reservation confirmation directions made no mention of the detours or best routes for RVs to come in. Our various GPS's gave us conflicting information on which roads were appropriate as well. We ended up coming in on 438 (exit 201), which is do-able but very narrow and hilly. We left via 107 (exit 202), which was much easier to navigate.
Once you are settled in, this is a very peaceful and restful park. During the week in summer, we hardly had any neighbors. But getting into your site may be a challenge. We used satellite view to select our site - #55 - for best privacy. However it had quite a 'slope' and we almost bottomed out backing in. Parking our toad on the remaining space was a challenge.
We had a large trailer try to get into the spot next door, which while large enough itself - the entry was nearly impossible given the placement of trees. After 2 hours of us all trying to help them get into their spot - the camp host called in the ranger, and they ended up re-locating to a different spot.
Aside from the unlevel nature of many spots, and the difficulty getting in - the other ding for the park is lack of easy walking access to the lake, pool & public areas. There didn't seem to be any well marked trails to explore (and those that were are fairly unmaintained), and getting to the lake is down a pretty steep hill for casual walking.
Cell phone signal however was pretty great for Verizon & AT&T.

The site was a little un-level but were able to level our 38 ft motorhome. We had a site that was electric only which isn't a problem for us on a 4 night stay, being right next to the bathroom was helpful. I like the fact that check out time is 3, gives you plenty of time to get ready to go if you need it. We checked in early, about 1:00 and were told if the site was empty (which it was) we could occupy it right away. We travel with two dogs and there is adequate room to walk them. We had two granddaughters with us who wanted to swim in the pool and canoe in the lake. The pool was $4 per person whether you swam or not and $20/hour for a canoe which I thought was a bit high. The trails were ok, but nothing spectacular. With our We-Boost we had 3 bars on At&T and 4 on T-mobile which was a surprise as we had no service on T-mobile without. We entered the park from I-81 extit 109B on 524. That brought us almost to the entrance of the park. 524 was a bit tight with a few turns but manageable.

This was the second time I camped here. First time a few years ago in a tent. Had a great time. This time I stayed in a popup trailer. No issue getting it in, but the sites are not very flat and the entrances are quite uneven and some are downright steep. There are a couple of sites that might work out if your trailer is under 24 feet, but any longer and you're in for a workout.

This is a very nice state park. Lots of trees. Good sized sites. The sites are very different in configuration and size so it would be best to call the park and get site recommendations based on your preferences before booking, especially if you have a large rig. There are always rangers driving around and they are friendly and helpful. The bathrooms are well maintained. There are lots of trails for hiking. We would stay here again.

Careful in Spring. Some sites can be pretty wet. Ours, site 46, had huge algae puddles that were unavoidable. There’s no wood for sale but you can gather from the forest.
All that said, it was an awesome experience. 50/30/20 amp service. Mountain biking trails, fishing, a lake and a pool (closed during off-season). Bathrooms clean and well maintained. Private sites.
Would stay again but would be more selective about picking a site.

Many are non electric. The sites are at horrible angles and very uneven. The website photos are to small to tell anything. You also have to deal with the disastrous Pennsylvania roads.

We were there June 2-3. Site 48 (electric) in Carpenter Town. Very narrow camp roads, many trees and many sites difficult to back into. The photos are misleading. There is moss growing on the asphalt pavement in sites, very damp. Some sites very close together, we had trees separating us from other sites. Bathrooms older but ok. There are many hiking trails and a very nice lake with kayak rentals. No swimming in the lake but there is a public pool, large parking area. Small town of Dalton close by with grocery store, etc.

We stopped here to break up a long drive and we’re glad we did. A lovely park, wooded sites and a stunning lake. Level, paced lads (in the pet friendly loop, clean facilities and great cell connectivity (as we often work from the road).

I showed up without a reservation on a Friday and was given a great dog friendly site in Fox Run loop that had lots of privacy. No hookups but I have solar so no worries. The site was level which meant I didn't have to unhitch. A bonus for me. There are lots of hiking trails and a beautiful lake. The bathroom was clean. The shower stall tiny but the water was hot and had good pressure.
