“Swim in a Desert Lake!”
This serene lake offers great opportunities for fishing, bird watching, and windsurfing. Choose from a variety of campsites with utility hookups for RVs. The park is conveniently located near historic Las Vegas. One of the best ways to experience a state park is is by camping under the stars. Different camping opportunities are available and whether you like to roll out your sleeping bag or curl up in your RV, state parks has it all. Fishing, of all varieties, is one of the most popular activities at NM State Parks. Twenty-four parks have ponds, streams, rivers or lakes, providing a variety of different fishing experiences. From a lazy afternoon casting for pan-fish to a high-energy adventure of fishing for 40-inch tiger muskie, your State Parks have a lot to offer. There are many State Parks that allow you to swim. Make sure to call the park directly for changes in designated waters and seasonal closures. We do not recommend cliff diving as New Mexico's terrain is very rocky in and out of water. Please remember to always where your life jackets!

There are 25 sites with Electric and Water. Power is 30a. 10 of the sites are pull throughs. These all have shelters. There are additional 4 on the southwest side, also with shelters. Two of those are pull thru and the two others are back in. The others to the north are back-ins.
Best sites with a mix of open and shade are site Odd #'s 3S-15S and Even #'s 6S-10S.
All services including the dump site were closed for the winter.
Now the one negative. The park closes the entry gate at sunset. The exit gate is open 24 hours but has your drive over one way spikes, like at a parking facility to stop people from going the wrong way. As I write this on Nov 10 the gate closes at 5pm. So, if you want to go to dinner or someplace else, when you get back you can only park near the front gate/visitor center. That then leads to a very long walk to your campsite. 200 yards at the closest to 1200 yards at the furthest. Seems they don't want folks from the town driving through. So makes it very quiet at night but rather inconvenient.

We booked 5 nights here basically to kill time at a cheap state park.
It's...just meh. We didn't find the lake to be that scenic. The park is dusty and run-down.
The dumpstation isn't just closed for the winter as a previous review said - it's just closed with no apparent plans to repair. There's a private park up the road 2 miles you can pay to dump at. We just "carried" to our next destination.
We were here in July - and that has to be factored into our experience. Temps were nearing triple digits during the daytimes. It's windy here which prevented us from putting our awning out.
A trip into Las Vegas to explore the town lasted about 1.5 hours - we just weren't feeling it.
The only upsides we see to this park are proximity to I-25, cheap camping, and solid cell signal.

This was our second time at Storrie Lake. It's a great overnight spot if you are in the area. Plenty of primitive spots down by the lake and the sunsets never disappoint. It's an easy pull in no unhooking overnight spot and you're going to get treated to a great sunset.
Lots of port-a-potty's and two large clean bathroom and shower facilities.

After a week of vacation, we needed an inexpensive place to post-up and catch up on work. Storrrie Lake State Park fit the bill.
The developed camping areas in this park seem to be randomly arranged - some spots offer close quarters, while others have plenty of space -- and the electric sites 20-27 are set-up like a typical close-quarters gravel RV park. The dump station is permanently closed, and there are mostly port-o-potties and pit toilets by way of amenities. However, for $8 you can snag a water-front primitive camping spot along the shore of a really pretty (and swimmable) lake with solid Verizon service.
Overall, this place isn't the most scenic or best outfitted state park we've visited in NM, but it was convenient and cheap.

Camp host allowed horribly LOUD music one night for 5 hours, claims he told them to turn it down. Also, same people were allowing foam plates and plastic bags to blow into the lake. Other end of campground better, but the locals have taken over the entire thing - if there's a local leaving one of the better campsites, they will let one of the other locals know and they will move in when the first one leaves. I saw it happen 3 times while I was there, because I was waiting for a site that was in the better spot.
Luckily, I was dry camping with an annual permit, so I wasn't paying anything! MOST of the other NM state parks are very nice!

We stayed in the primitive camping area for one night. Pros were nice birds on lake, convenient to highway, mountains in view, inexpensive and we were only campers (mid-November). No water during winter(vault toilets pretty clean). Downsides were that park is relatively small and surrounded be development so traffic noise and sirens during day and early evening. Park is a little worn. Campground near river away from road may be quieter(not open while we were there).

We pulled in shortly before sunset on the Thursday before memorial day weekend. The forms in the box to fill out and pay were not in there so we drove out to the lake and just camped in a primitive site. The site met our needs for a quick overnight stay, the only knock on the campground was the early morning Flying of parachutes with the big motors on their back started buzzing pretty early in the morning. It looks like it could get pretty hectic the trailers next to us were empty Alf looked like they were just saving spaces for the holiday weekend

I've stayed here before, and nothing has changed. Always a nice place to stop. Hopefully next season they can get their dump station fixed, as that is the only negative. Good Verizon & ATT connection!

This Park is just north of Las Vegas NM. As such it is a local hangout with all that implies. The lake and view were beautiful, and fishing so so. However, my grandson greatly enjoyed kayaking on the still water. Bathhouses were clean and new. We never saw any staff/hosts etc. Which means the campground was overrun with vehicles, kids and noise. Spots were crowded and not clearly marked. After a Local (thank you) told us we could park on the beach we did so We were literally on the lake, so all the noise was behind us. As this was midweek, at dust all the locals left. However, since this was just an overnight, if was a hike up to the restrooms, but worth the quiet.

Date of stay: Mar. 20-23, 2019, price reflects discount with annual New Mexico S.P. pass
Reservations weren't necessary for the time of year we were there, and with New Mexico State Parks' new policy of having a certain number of sites always non-reservable, they probably wouldn't have been even during warmer months. There were never more than 5 campers altogether in the whole park while we were there.
All water in the park, including showers and dump station, is shut off October thru April, so you'll need to come in with enough water for your stay. If you're in a big rig, the south campground is the best with all sites being pull-thrus, but there are a few spaces at the other end of the park in the boating campground that will work if needed. The smaller Gallinas CG with electric was closed for the season. Primitive camping is allowed on the shore area.
The entrance gate closes at 5pm, and you can't get back in past that time. It really ensured quiet nights. There are no real trails in the park, and not much to do in the immediate area. The Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge is nearby and offers a few short hikes and bird-watching opportunities.
There was good OATV and great Verizon connection.
