General Coffee State Park

Off US highway 441 in south-central Georgia is this lovely state park nestled in the woods. It gave us our first taste of trees with Spanish Moss, since our last stop was in northern Georgia in the mountains. The loop we were in had large drive through sites on gravel. The trees are tall, so the sites are fairly open to one another. The bathroom was clean and nearby. There is a train track in the vicinity and a few trains ran at night, but it was not loud. Ear plugs work well if you are sensitive to noise. There is a small farm in the day use area and we enjoyed chatting with the Campground host about spending time in this area and their job of caring for the animals. There are cabins you can rent and an area for people to camp with their horses, since there are bridle paths. Swimming in the river or pond is not an option.

We stayed here at the tail end of Columbus Day weekend and were able to get a spot.

Paved roads all the way in, the camp loops are quite a drive from the from the main gate. All the sites are pull through, try to get one on the right side of the road so you are facing the woods. We had no problem leveling our rig. They have water and electric, dump station is close by on the way out. Most of the sites were pretty big with some screening between, it really helps if you are facing the woods. Plenty of free firewood for the gathering in the surrounding woods.

Plenty of things to do here. They have a nice recreation of a 1900's Georgia farmstead with some interesting buildings, animals and displays. Good network of hiking trails, including a long boardwalk through the swampy areas. There's a small lake for fishing or kayaking too.

Very friendly staff, clean facilities, well maintained park.

General Coffee state park was awesome. The spaces are spread out, it was quiet (even over Easter weekend), the farm animals are so awesome, the rangers are super helpful and we were able to hang our hammocks.

There is an onsite farm, where they have baby goats, pigs/boars, a donkey, snakes, chickens, roosters, a turkey and much more. We went on several nature hikes, lead by the rangers. We also rode our bikes on their many trails.

Lots of history on the park.

This campground has become one of our favorites. Some sites are big rig friendly with 50 amp service, some sites not so and only 30 amp. Many of the sites are not level so bring leveling blocks. All sites are pull through but some are short and slanted but there are enough good sites to accommodate big rigs. No sewer at sites, but dump station is near campground.
Walmart less than 10 miles away in Douglas, GA along with restaurants and grocery stores. Hiking and biking trails that traverse upland forests and boardwalks through the river swamp are in excellent shape. Park has a cool Heritage Farm that brings you back in time to early settlers in Georgia.

We stayed here in October of 2017. It’s a nice state park. They had a little Halloween haunted house set up for kids to go through and some other things for them to do. Had nice hiking trails and a little farm set up that showed how people lived back in the early 1900s. Nice little lake also. Would stay here again.

Nice, quiet state park. We stayed here April 7-10. Lots to do: hiking, geocaching, tour the farm and check out the animals. The sites on the outside of the loops have woods views, pretty much every site is a pull thru. Some sites have 30 amp, some have 50 (ours had 30). We dropped our toad at the front gate and drove in to choose a site. Saw a gopher tortoise on one of the trails. Staff and volunteers (camp host) were friendly and helpful. Points off for low water pressure in the bath house, and watch out for the ants......

We loved our visit here, such a gem. We came with friends for a long weekend and the weather was absolutely perfect - very peaceful save for the occasion train horn. The park had a Heart to Heart Festival on Saturday that included a 5K/10K race, archery clinic, hiking stick craft, farm animal interaction and hikes. It was so much fun - the animals are beautiful and you can tell they are well taken care of on the farm. Got in some archery with the 3D targets and made a hiking stick. There are two campgrounds - we stayed in Campground 1 which has a gravel drive and fairly level sites although we did see a couple that looked like they were in a bit of an incline. Our site had an incredible amount of living space - very private out back. There isn't a ton of space btwn sites but with all the trees and vegetation we didn't feel like we were on top of anyone or visa versa - all sites are pull-through. The park was pretty full Friday and Saturday but cleared out on Sunday.
Campground 2 has a paved road in with gravel sites and some really nice ones that back up to the trails.
Lots of nice hiking and biking trails that we took advantage of as well. We didn't go in to town at all since we ate all our meals at the campground so I can't speak to local fare.
Staff were super friendly and helpful - volunteers who did the crafts were also incredibly knowledgeable about the park and it's history. You definitely have to spend time at the Heritage Farm. Jasper the goat is pretty darn cute.
The only reason it isn't 5 stars are the bathrooms, while clean (and with heat) they are pretty outdated. Wish I could give 4 1/2 stars.

Not the most friendly for big rigs but did accommodate our 40ft MH. Two camp loops with the second being most desirable because of asphalt roads. Neat stuff for kids to see in the frontier area, i.e., farm animals and historic buildings and other antique items. Paddle boats were not at all useful and should be taken out of service. Bicycles for rent not in the greatest shape either. Bath house acceptable and was kept clean by park attendants. Nice trails for hiking. Would give higher overall rating if full hookups.

Located a few miles outside of Douglas, GA, it's a bit out of the way. Douglas has everything incl a Walmart and several fast-food places. Hosts are pleasant. Most sites are pull-thru and shaded; also well spaced apart. Couple of nice walking trails. I'm told weekdays in winter are slow and weekends tend to fill quickly.

This is a mid-week visit. No idea what the weekends hold
