“A decommissioned lighthouse turned museum”

Yaquina Bay lighthouse was built in 1871, but is no longer in use today. Due to this, a few ghost stories have been told about this particular lighthouse. Visitors can tour the lighthouse itself, as well as a gift shop in its basement and its antique period furniture. Yaquina Bay State Park is located in Newport at the north end of Yaquina Bay near its outlet to the Pacific Ocean. The bluff is forested with spruce and pine, but the real star is the historic lighthouse. The lighthouse -- later used as a Coast Guard Lifeboat Station -- has been restored and is open to the public. Attractions nearby include the historic Newport bayfront, Hatfield Marine Science Center and the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Nice place. Pretty scenery. Be aware it's a whole half mile hike to the lighthouse from the parking lot.

There are two lighthouses in Newport, Yaquina Bay and Yaquina Head. The photo on this page is Yaquina Bay, and the entry is confusing for not clearly separating the two locations, which are miles apart and both worth visiting.

Yaquina Head has the tallest tower on the Oregon Coast, and stands at 162 feet above sea level. This is the only lighthouse in Oregon with a marble floor. Yaquina Head is open to the public, and surrounded by the Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area.

This beautiful, historic lighthouse is well worth a visit. When the interpretive center is open, you are able to go inside to learn more about the history of the area and view exhibits focusing on marine life. Be sure to check their website to see if tours of the lighthouse are currently running! If not, it’s still worth a stop to admire from the outside. We think a stop here is one of the best things to do in Newport.

Looked so promising oh so promising. right off the turn from the highway there's a stand that tells you you have to pay just to get in to go see the lighthouse. this wasn't too bad it's only $7 but it's kind of upsetting you have to pay money to go see something that's on the coast. 2 minutes down the road from where you pay your entrance fee there's a sign directing you two or three gift shop you're not allowed to continue driving without pulling into the parking lot and going in front of the gift shop. you're then told that if you want to see the lighthouse you have to pay $20 and get a tour from them only during certain times of the day.when we told them we didn't want it to or we just want to take pictures of the lighthouse they let us go down to it but you're not allowed to get any closer than a hundred and fifty feet away from the base of the lighthouse. we were also set to go down to cobble beach unfortunately we didn't know there was a massive amount of stairs from or they let you park at a lighthouse to get down to cobble beach. we had a handicapped person in our party and we were told that it was handicapped-accessible unfortunately we could not make it down there due to this reason. All in all very disappointed on how this is handled would not recommend you go there unless you spending a long time either 2 to 3 hours being at this location.
