“Get the great agave”
Located on a nondescript stretch of Broome Street, Barrio Chino (which means "Chinese 'hood" in Spanish) is a perfect fit for a particular part of the Lower East Side where the Chinese and Latino communities intersect. The decor incorporates Asian accents like colorful hanging paper lanterns and Chinese portraits in an airy space with exposed brick walls, dark wood bar, and open shelves filled with tequila. The agave liquor is the main draw here; they've got dozens, and each shot comes with a peppery sangrita chaser. If it's a mixed drink you want, choose from a list of house specials, including a fruity, red sangria, and four varieties of caipirinha. Barrio Chino was featured in Best Thing I Ever Ate.
The food and drinks are amazing here. We had a grape fruit margarita, the best cactus tacos, guacamole and enchiladas verdes. Awesome staff, tiny space, but worth the wait.
