The Orpheum Theatre, which has hosted STOMP, the well-known show of percussion produced with everyday objects by actors with audience participation, since 1994, used to show the musical Rent in the 1990s, before it was a hit on Broadway. Much earlier, the Orpheum was one of several Yiddish theaters on 2nd Av. in what was then universally known as the Lower East Side.
