“The Aaron Sargeant House”
This distinctive estate was built in 1856 atop Nob Hill by Aaron A. Sargent, U.S. Senator, prominent publisher and early Nevada City settler. Sargent championed legislation to create the Transcontinental Railroad and, with wife Ellen initiated a bill giving women the right to vote. In 1985 the Sargent's home was lovingly restored and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
