Location: Outer Banks - Nags Head
Sites: 117 dry camping, we chose C15 but couldn’t park our truck in front of the 5th wheel – it wasn’t busy so we parked in another site. The road around the sites is quite narrow (as wide as our truck), but there aren’t any trees to worry about
Facilities: water tap outside the cold showers, rest rooms with power point/electric outlet to use a hairdryer, dump station - which is outside the campground at the marina, picnic tables, BBQ
Groceries: Shop on the way in, or drive back 8 miles
Reservations: Yes on the NPS reservation site
Cell Coverage / WiFi: we got connection our Verizon wifi and phone (4G 3-4 bars)
Price Paid: $28 cash or credit card payable at the Ranger Station
Date of visit: Mid May 2016
Other: 5 minutes walk to the beach
Quiet Time 10pm to 6am
There are prickles that will stick to your carpet like Velcro, so check they haven’t hitchhiked on your shoes
Would we come here again? Yes, this is a better location than the other campgrounds

Oregon Inlet Campground, in Cape Hatteras National Seashore is nicely located for exploring the Outer Banks. It's far enough away from the craziness of Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills yet close enough to pop into Nags Head for shopping, groceries or restaurants. Go south and there are miles of isolated beaches and wildlife areas on Pea Island. Not too bad of a drive down to Hatteras Light either. Bodie Island Lighthouse is just a few miles up the road. Don't miss seeing the catch of the day off the charter boats across the road at the marina.
This is a great place to experience oceanfront camping in a natural environment.
The campground is wide open, mostly grassy, fairly level sites with paved pads. Some of the pads can be a tight squeeze for larger rigs with toads, all vehicles must be parked on the pad. The office has a listing of the pad length for each site. The office staff was very friendly and helpful. No hookups, water and dump station are at the marina. Restrooms were nice and clean. Showers also clean, water was warm enough in mid September. Bring a light to use at the showers at night.
It is a 5 minute walk over very the dunes to the ocean. Expect windy conditions and no shade. Bugs can be a problem, mostly after sunset. No-see-ums will go through just about any screen and the mosquitos can be fierce so be prepared. I wouldn't let them stop me from staying here though, it is a special place!
Some road noise even for sites away from the road but traffic is minimal during the night.
We had good internet from AT&T.

Oregon Inlet campground is one of the very few tent friendly camp sites in the Outer banks. This was our first time camping there and it was absolutely wonderful. The bathroom and shower facilities are some of the best of ever experienced. They have warm water and flushing toilets. The sand has spurs so shoes/sandals are necessary [its just the way the dunes are] The sites have pathways to the beach and its about a 5 min walk through the dunes. It's very scenic. The staff/park rangers are extremely friendly and helpful. There are lots of flies and mosquitoes so be sure to bring bug spray. There's no shade so be sure to bring umbrellas/pop up gazebos. Lots of sunscreen if you're easily burnt. If you're okay with some heat and bugs this place is for you! You might as well have you're own private beach while you're there. I would definitely camp here again.

Even when construction on the bridge was happening, it was quiet. Great campground, no hookups, easy access to the rest of the island. They do have community showers, but be prepared, there is no hot water. The beaches were excellent, even got to boogie board a bit.
While at Oregon Inlet we were able to visit the Wright Brothers National Memorium, Jockey Ridge State Park and the Bodie Light Station.

Our first time to the Outer Banks and so glad we chose this campground. Great location for exploring. Easy to hit the new Publix supermarket at Nags Head. Close to the tourist stops at Kitty Hawk and Roanoke Island and also the remote and much more isolated areas south along the Banks. About one hour to Cape Hatteras which we wanted to visit. Museum there (Graveyard of the Atlantic) was both eclectic and interesting. Walked the beach there at nearly high tide and knowing the history that was made there around Diamond Shoals (over 400 wrecks) was very powerful.
Campground bathrooms are immaculate. No hot showers, so be advised. No hook-ups BUT we were told they are installing water and electric later this year. The price will go up from $28 to $35 (and half that with the Senior Access Pass) but it is still a bargain for the location, location, location. There is huge construction nearby on the Bonner bridge but at night, it's quiet here. Sites are paved and some in better shape than others. As others noted, it can be a tight fit for bigger rigs. Our 25' Airstream and Ford 150 just squeezed onto the site, so be advised.
Highly recommend making reservations especially after mid-May when the season ramps up. Will stay here again.

Clean showers and bathrooms. The shower has a pull chain (see picture). No hot water, however, the sun kept it warm. Bbq and picnic table at each site, parking on cement and grass to pitch the tent. They let you pick the site you want. First come first serve. No shade of protection. The camp was not noisy. The trucks from the road can be near if you choose to be closer.

A few sites now have water and electric from a recent renovation! The dump is across the street and a little tricky to find at first. We took our car to find it before we needed to dump. Crossing over the dunes to get to the beach in some areas is more difficult than others. I would recommend talking to your camp host if you’re not in good shape. For being summer time on the beach it was pretty quiet and laid back.

Really great set up and location.Close to the fray of Nags Head but a world away. Close the wild beauty of Hatteras Island but with power for AC. Mellow staff and hosts.

The reservation system is flaky (reason for 4 stars) as you reserve "a site" then get "to pick" when you get there. A little confusing but happy to get a site with water and electric that fit our 35' class A and room to park the toad in front! 10 minute walk to get to the beach and location is excellent for exploring the OBX. The showers were pull chain and warmed by the sun. Dump station is across the road (left out of the campground, then the first right while keeping to the left side of the area you just entered. ) Not all of the sites have water and electric but finding a vacant site with electric was easy.
