The park's largest campground is in the southeast part of the park, closest to the town of Jackson. Sagebrush and grasses cover the campground as cottonwoods and blue spruce rise above. The Gros Ventre River is a short stroll away. Some sites offer views of the Grand Teton and Blacktail Butte. Wildlife including bison, moose and mule deer frequent the area.

We stayed here recently for 2 nights in September 2014 and for 3 nights in September 2016 and the campground was good but not great.

2016 Update
Overall I do feel that this is the best option close to Jackson. Our site this go-around was much more level but the table was still quite weathered. The staff was super helpful when we checked in and made sure that we got a site that we would be happy with. They also offered a few suggestions for some site seeing. As in 2014 there was a moose jam in the campground which is always a fun thing.

When we go back to the Jackson area I would for sure camp here again. If we were focusing on Teton, I would probably opt for one of the campgrounds in the park.

2014 Original Review
The sites (at least the 2 that we were occupying) are in a bit of disrepair. The pads were not level and the picnic table was quite weathered. There is reasonable separation from neighbors (much better than an RV parking lot). We did experience some road noise and airplane noise from the nearby airport. Lots of generators running through the day but all were off by 10PM.

The highlight of this campground has got to be the frequent wildlife. There were 3 moose there when we arrived and 2 when we left. From my understanding, this is fairly frequent.

I would stay here again but would check some other options first.

We stayed here for 9 nights in 2014. This campground is mostly dry camping, but does have some sites with electricity only, but that about doubles the price. There are no reservations, it's first come first served only, however this campground rarely fills up, even in the summer. It's located just south of the park, so it gives you easy access to both the park and the city of Jackson. The sites are huge and you have nice separation from other campsites. Some of the sites back up to the Snake River, although it's still a distance away so you can hear it but not really see it. There is always lots of wildlife in this campground! We saw lots of moose and bison during our stay. There were reports of grizzly before we got there, but we never saw it. We really love this campground and will definitely return.

Easy access to the Grand Tetons and Jackson are the biggest perks of this park. It is massive so you will likely find a spot easily. Electric sites are super expensive, but non electric is decent. The campground is maintained okay and kept clean, but it is a little ragged. It's obvious the park has put zero money into updating this site for a long time, they will run it into the ground as long as possible. Despite that it has great views of the Tetons, not too many bugs, lots of trees and is fairly quiet for a national park campground, I would recommend it!

The biggest issue with this campground is totally inconsistent site quality. The campground is on the older side and the sites are a real mix -> some sites are lovely, large and flat while others are terribly small, uneven and could barely fit a truck camper. Many sites also have large logs in the back preventing larger rigs from fitting into sites which would otherwise be fine. River-facing sites (no river view, but you'll be able to walk to there from your site) are generally larger and more spacious, sites in Loop A have a slice view of the Tetons while other loops are wooded but it's a real mix pf quality throughout. Our site was too small for us (we had to park at an angle to fit), needed levelers and felt too close to the other RV's in the back, but it was quiet and the location (to explore the surrounding area) was excellent. Mormon Row is only ~10 mins away, Jackson is only ~20 mins south, south entrance of the Tetons is only ~20 mins north and Gros Ventre WIlderness is just east. So, despite the awkward site we ended up loving the place and extended our stay twice. Decent Verizon signal (2 bars stable LTE unboosted), but iffy ATT. Extra bonus? Moose walk through the campground every early AM.

Note/ the campground is first-come-first-serve, and appears to be VERY popular so it's best to arrive early to nab your spot.

The views of the Tetons is amazing. We saw several bull moose. Very close to Jackson Hole. The campground needs some maintenance. On our second stay here the road in had some washout so part was down to one lane. The staff was good. This campground is a good location but could use some maintenance. Next time we are in the area we will be staying at Shadow Mountain.

This campground is clean, well run, and guilty of only showing the same amount of neglect (thanks for nothing, Congress!) as the rest of the national park system. The staffers running the campground are friendly and helpful and the campground is quite clean. You do want to pay attention. Some loops are generator-free; you want those loops if you are in a tent or a soft-sided trailer. The RV loops can get quite noisy, and they allow generators to run until 10pm. There are decent views of the Tetons from many places in the campground.
There are few facilities here, but Kelly, a very small town is a couple of miles to the east, you can get awesome sandwiches and beer. There is a Post Office in town, too. We rode bikes every day, although there is no shoulder on the 3-4 miles to the main highway, drivers were courteous and safe. There is a nice bike path that goes into Jackson, and goes North to Moose.
We like this place a lot and will stay here again.

I really like this campground....lots of level sites in a quiet setting. We stayed in loop F used senior pass for discount. Space between most sites with privacy. Campground is in flat area, so sites are level. Flush toilets but no showers.

We love the Tetons and have frequented this park so many times it feels like home, but this was our first extended stay, with family, and Gros Ventre was a perfect fit for what we wanted to do.
It's a big campground, first come first served, but they never filled completely, I don't think, even over the weekend. It's a little bit removed from the inside loop of the Tetons, but the advantage maybe is the spaciousness of the sites... We were parked amongst some pretty big Class A rigs for part of our stay, but the sites were adequately spread out and we had nice big trees all around us, plenty of hammock spots...and we had our trailer and a big tent and never felt crowded in.
The bathrooms were clean, no showers...and the dump and water was easy to access. We went to one ranger show in the evening that got rained out, but it is a nice ampitheater which also has a big u-shaped parking lot for off loading tow vehicles.
We had pretty good cell reception, used a booster a few times to bring it in stronger. The people who run the reservation desk were helpful and very friendly.

This is my favorite campground in the park.We love the large level sites and especially enjoyed the end loop because it was slightly more sunny and allowed us to run on solar power longer. This park does not fill up till night time and has wonderful views of the Tetons. Its proximity to the town of Jackson makes it so convenient.Cant wait to go back!

Stayed here for a lovely 13 days in Aug 2017, and was seemingly quite lucky to even get a site. Early in the morning starting at around 8AM there are long lines of cars, campers, and trailers waiting for a spot - even on weekdays! We arrived at around noon and managed to grab a really nice spot backed out onto the sage brush and forest with no one behind us. Moose wander through the campground randomly, and if you're in a loop without generators, it is quite peaceful in the evening. 25 minute trip into the beautiful town of Jackson for groceries and restaurants.

Pros
- Fantastically beautiful campground with tons of wildlife - birds, deer, moose, etc.
- Centrally located for easy access to town, hiking, boating, etc.
- Very peaceful and quiet in the evening if you are in a non-generator loop.

Cons
- Most loops have roads and sites in fairly poor condition.
- $56 for dry electric hookups is outrageous! If our site wasn't so lovely we would've moved to another site.
- Strong Verizon signal with an external antenna (-70dBm ~ 4-5 bars), but during the day the cell towers are completely overloaded and internet browsing is unusable. Typically before 10AM and after 10PM Internet is good, but upload speeds are very slow. We commuted into town nearly every day to work - WiFi at the library was almost useless, but working at Picnic & Persepheone bakeries was productive.
- Dump station gets quite backed up in the morning, and while there is two dump stations, there's only a single potable water faucet which just backs everyone up.
- Extremely busy some mornings, with vehicles backed up all the way to the main road!
