Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on August 25, 202310 sites surround a formation of squat, red rock mushrooms in the BLM-managed Indian Creek Recreation Area that shares the boundary with Canyonlands National Park Needles District. The turnoff is well-marked, just 3 miles before the NP boundary on Hwy 211. Turn east on Lockhart Basin Road, on wide, well-graded gravel road.
There's good elbow room between sites and it reminded us of a miniature City of Rocks (New Mexico). Great place for kids to safely scramble among the rocks. Stunning sunrises and sunsets, with monuments, needle formations and iconic silhouettes in the distance.
However, sites are not very level, and consist of wind-blow sand. Not suitable for larger rigs (over 30 feet). Fire ring and picnic tables. Great for tent campers, shorter vehicles like our 22' van, or truck/camper combos.
There are two restrooms, one is a double cast vault toilet on the west side by the Lockhart Road entrance (200 steps from our site #7) and the other an open-air number on the east side. It can be windy in the afternoons.
No reception whatsoever. Just drive less than 15 minutes to the Canyonlands Visitor Center where the WiFi is free.
On the mid-October weekend in 2016, there was a lot of competition for sites since Canyonlands’ Squaw Flats campground filled by 9 am each weekend day. However, there are lots of boondocking sites along Lockhart Road both before and after Hamburger Rocks.

My little family and I were super happy camping here. We had amazing starlit nights, and laid out on the rocks until very late watching the stars. We camped on the West side of the rock and positioned our airstream to Block the afternoon sun, while the rock shielded the morning sun. We went in middle June, and the temps were 95+ in the day and a nice cool 50's at night. only a couple other campers at this time, so the desolation was nice.

Our first time staying at BLM lands. We loved the solitude and beautiful views. We stayed 4 nights, there were a couple other people at most times through the week.
It was easy to find. The road to the campground was gravel. There was a bit of wash board but nothing we couldn't handle. Once in the campground we tried to go to the right around the corner to check out a couple of sites we could fit in. We have a 35' fifth wheel and a dually. The rock sticks out a bit on the first corner and the road is washed out just enough that I wouldn't fit. I backed up and walked to site 10, which is a pull through all by itself. It was available and the path to it seemed good enough.
Our 5th wheel's jacks are really low so it can't roll over much, there is a few spots with sand stone sticking up a little. We made it with no scrapes. Even though a pull though with a large truck and 35' RV we had to wedge it in there a bit. No issues after that. Coming out we had to back up all the way to the corner and go back the way we came in.
A quick tip, when the winds kick up, shut your windows, that is unless you want that wonderful red dust on every surface.

The campsite we were in was level. There is a firepit and a picnic table. There are also lots of unusual rock formations to climb on/look at. The campsites are not close together so there is no noise from other campers. Thoroughly enjoyed staying here and will be back!

All the sites were taken when we arrived, but we found a nearly level pull-out (free BLM boondocks site) with a tree and great 360° views just a quarter mile further down the road. Not a bad walk to the vault toilet if you are not in a hurry. We were blessed with great weather and fine sunset and sunrise. In the evening it was a blessing that the breeze was blowing the road dust of passing cars away from us, but in the morning we were not quite so lucky.

No cellphone coverage (Verizon and T-Mobile) but the road is in good condition. No coverage since we left the main Highway. Made it in a 22 foot class C.
Apparently they raised the price from free to $15 with self pay station.
