“discover one of the area's best kept secrets”
Less than an hour from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex, discover one of the area's best kept secrets. Experience the warmth and charm of true Texas hospitality in a magnificent Eastlake Queen Ann style mansion, while exploring the scenic and cultural attractions that abound in the North Texas hill country around Mineral Wells and along the Brazos River. Built in 1904 "Silk Stocking Row" takes its name from the description used during that era for the nearby prestigious homes located on Fourth Avenue. Surrounded by beautiful landscaped grounds, this turn-of-the-century Victorian home features central heat and air with detailed rooms furnished with an emphasis on comfort. Guests are invited to enjoy the beautiful environs of the library, parlor, and formal dining room on the main floor. Spacious guest rooms are located on the second floor and each has a ceiling fan. All are stocked with extra luxurious towels, quality toiletries and awaiting your arrival will be a genuine bottle of "Crazy Water" and a bucket of ice. Each room has access to the main and second floor wrap-around verandas. The "Silk Stocking" is located within minutes of three lakes and some of the finest recreational facilities in Texas, where you can enjoy boating, fishing, rock climbing, and other outdoor adventures. Bike or hike along the Lake Mineral Wells State Park and Trailway portion of the rails-to-trials network or canoe down the Brazos River. Other nearby attractions and entertainment include BAT World Sanctuary, outdoor dramas, seasonal festivals including the Crazy Water Festival, Parade of Homes, Crystal Christmas, and rodeos. Call for specific details. The historic and architecturally intriguing downtown area is within an easy walk and the ideal place to begin shopping for antiques, collectibles, crafts, hand-made furniture, and apparel. Bargains abound at the nearby outlet shopping area or the monthly Weatherford Trade Days. During the height of its popularity, celebrities flocked to enjoy the curative powers of the "Crazy Water" baths and the splendor of the million-dollar hotels. Today, you can still sample the famous waters drawn from wells at the beautifully restored Famous Water Company, just three blocks away.
While travelling with my girlfriend we decided to spend the weekend at Silk Stocking Row. We had kind of a hard time finding it, but it was worth the time. This B&B is beautifully decorated, it is a victorian era home but it has been nicely updated to meet todays needs. Our room was very clean and comfortable with a nice decoration too. The staff was very friendly and made us feel like home. The breakfast was great and delicious. Everything was clean and in order. You should take some time and have a look at the whole hotel, you can find very interesting books about the location’s and surrounding area’s history. It is a great place to spend a romantic weekend with your special other, I highly recommend it to anyone thinking of going on a weekend getaway.
