“Nestled in the Rugged Mountains!”
Cozy Poe Valley State Park is nestled in a rugged mountain valley in Centre County. Seemingly endless forests surround the 25-acre Poe Lake. The 620-acre state park is surrounded by the 198,000-acre Bald Eagle State Forest. Poe Paddy State Park is nearby. Lake angling is popular, especially at the beginning of the trout season in mid-April. The lake is stocked with trout several times per season. Many enjoy the winter ice fishing season. Common game species include brown and rainbow trout, catfish, pickerel, sunfish and perch. For stream fishing, the famous Penns Creek and Big Poe Creek are within a short distance of the park. Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission seasons and limits apply. The park was named for Big Poe Creek, which flows through the valley. In the mid-1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) created the park and built many of the roads. They completed the dam in 1937. Several miles upstream from the park, a stone memorial marks the site of the camp, whose remaining structures are now used as a private hunting camp.

Ratings Summary
We camped here with our grand kids. The site we were in had electric but nothing else going for it. Little grass, mostly dirt. Most of the sites were more suited to small RV's or pop ups, not large RV's.The bath houses were new and they had a new bath house and camp store at the lake. The beach was nice. The thing we really didn't like was the drive in. It was about 8 miles, most of it dirt road. I'm glad we didn't meet another RV because the road was very narrow.

Poe Valley is definitely a place to go if you want to be off the beaten trail. This is a nice little state park in the mountains of Pennsylvania. If you want paved roads to travel on, this is not the place to go. The sites are not on top of each other, and they either have electric or nothing. Our site 23 was a little cramped for our 30-foot TT but was doable. There is a small lake with swimming available. The swim house looked brand new along with the single bath house at the campground. We did not use either, so I won't comment. Do not expect cell service with Verizon until you are halfway back to civilization. We are definitely planning on returning, but in the spring. For the fly fishers, this is right near Penns Creek.
