“Once-monthly trolly tour of the grounds”
Established in 1842 as the Georgia Lunatic Asylum, treated patients suffering from mental illness, epilepsy and tuberculosis. The fully accredited hospital occupies approximately 100 buildings on 1700 acres. Museum by appointment only Beginning January 2020, the Milledgeville CVB offers a once-monthly trolly tour of the grounds. You only get out at one stop (Cedar Lane Cemetery) and you still cannot enter the buildings. However, the tour is led by a former hospital employee and offers much insight into the history and buildings.
Once a month Milledgeville, Georgia offers a tour of the Georgia Lunatic, Idiot and Epileptic Asylum. No, I’m not being ugly…that was the original name of Central State Hospital, established in 1837.
