“for the fishing and boating enthusiast”

For the fishing and boating enthusiast state-managed boat launch in Lexington is ten miles north of the park. The Port Huron State Game Area is within a 15 minute drive and provides opportunities for hiking year round and hunting in season. For the shopper, Birchwood Mall is about five miles south of the park. Lying along Lake Huron, Lakeport State Park provides southeast Michigan residents access to the Great Lakes. The park has two distinct units separated by the village of Lakeport. A total of 250 sites are divided between the two campgrounds. All sites have a picnic table, fire circle, electricity, modern toilet/shower buildings along with several pull-through sites and camp pads for ease of leveling campers.

Would not let us just drive through the park. Only campers and visitors of campers allowed Fri., Sat., and Sun. Odd for a State Park to say no to paying customers.

(North Campground) This campground can fill up and feel busy, but the sites are generally large enough that you don't feel packed in too tightly. I like the way they left some stands of trees as a buffer between sets of loops as it means you can end up against trees in some sites (such as 161) even though you're technically in the middle of the campground. The campground has nice bathroom facilities with separate shower rooms. They also are laid out well within the loops so that if one is closed for cleaning there's another one a short walk away.

Verizon cell service was decent enough that we could get work done and at the end of the workday, you can take just a short walk to the campground beach and enjoy searching for cool rocks on the Lake Huron shoreline. The day-use area is quite a bit down the road so you would have to drive there or take a good bike ride. But the benefit is that there is a large, sandy beach at the day-use area.

We stopped here for one night and it does fill up pretty well. There is descent space between camping spots, looks like mostly 50 Amp service but some areas are 30 Amp.

We were backed right on the lake or a very short walk. If your a rock painting kinda person then you’re going to love the beach! It’s nothing but small rocks that are rounded from centuries of waves.

There is a huge spread of painted rocks on the way to the beach so that’s interesting in itself.

The place is clean overall. Group water posts around. Sewer dump on your way out or in.

Besides the park fees they hit you with a $9.00 fee for entering in and out so I thought that was weird.

Seemed like everyone had a fire going in the fire-ring so it has smoke. If you don’t like that you should try and park close to the water and the wind will blow it mostly away.

Very nice large sites with Lake View if you are on East side of North Campground. Some sites adjacent to beach. 30 Amp on most sites, but some in North Campground and all in South Campground have 50 amp service. Super Clean restrooms in both North and South Campgrounds. Separate showers with hot water. Nice hiking trails near beach and between campgrounds. Dump station near north campground for potable water fill and end of stay dump. Overall a great Experience.

NOTE for Canadian travellers - Strong Rogers Cell Phone service with LTE Data. The service from Rogers was stronger than I had on my US T-Mobile phone that I keep just for travel in USA/
