“family owned and operated”
Red Trail is a family owned and operated campground, providing campers with a second home for over 33 years. We try to provide friendly and professional service to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. We have been told "You come as a stranger and leave as a friend". We hope that you will feel the same way. We try to make you feel like coming back to visit Medora and stay with us at the Red Trail Campground. Red Trail Campground is nestled below a butte on the southeast edge of historic Medora which takes its name from the wife of its founder, a French nobleman, the Marquis De Mores. Though his dreams of a cattle empire and meat packing plant have long since vanished, the town survived to witness, and retain in history. For a short time Teddy Roosevelt stayed in Medora opening two cattle ranches. Custer camped in Medora while on his way to Montana. Many other notables besides these have stayed in Medora. Come see the Medora Musical, learn a little more about us, where the west picks up its heels and parts of history began. Browse through our shops, enjoy the authentic western food at any of our restaurants, look though our museums, and drive though the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. That is the Medora experience.

There are so many trees you cannot get satellite, wi-fi was just OK. The spaces are so tight we had to park our truck right against the motorhome, barely able to open our door. When making reservations I am always sure to tell them we have a 44' motorhome with tow vehicle to make sure they can accommodate us. On the plus side, we went to the Roosevelt Nat'l Park and saw some buffalo and prairie dogs, and the Medora Musical and Dinner were fantastic!

This place is a dump. The bathrooms are old and dirty. The men's bathroom had one broken shower that was never repaired. The women's had an overflowing toilet. There is only one trashcan in the whole place, next to the dump station. Makes it difficult to throw away trash when someone is dumping. What would normally be a pull through spot in a normal park becomes a back to back spot here. They cram you in like sardines. The employees are not hygienic. Good things: kid volunteers, wifi and cable. Better off staying at Medora Campground.

There are really only two choices in town and neither are that great. Our experience wasn’t good and I honestly was glad to leave. Someone was in our spot when we arrived, we had to wait a while for them to figure out what to do. We pulled through to our spot, all the way to the edge of the road. We had no room to park our truck, but they let us park it close by. Our living area was bordered by the dumpster and the dump station, so we didn’t have much interest in sitting outside. Eventually, our parking space was assigned to a truck camper and their trailer. Fortunately , they found us another spot to park our truck. The people with the truck camper commandeered our picnic table, which the rules specifically state not to do. While we weren’t using it, it would have been nice if they asked.
We didn’t have a bad experience with the staff, in general they were pleasant enough and helpful enough. The WiFi was good, at times, better than most parks, but slows down when the park is full.
We loved the town of Medora, the Musical and Teddy Roosevelt NP, so we would stay again if we are ever back in the area. We drove through the county park, it had some nice sites, but most weren’t any better than here.

We have traveled all over the country in our 40' motorhome so we self contained and did not use this parks facilities. We have stayed in some great parks and some real dogs. This park rates in the middle or slightly below average. To begin, it is "off season" so this is the only RV park open in town and no other camping options are available anywhere nearby, thus one cannot be too choosy. I think some of the really bad reviews need to relax and not be so ridiculous. Sites are level, gravel with grass, picnic tables, barbeque and full service (50A, water, sewer). Nothing different than 90% of all RV parks all over the country. Sites are all "back in" but not as tight as some comments. Staff helped us get in, no problems. Yes, they charge an extra $3 for cable but at $39 total I could not complain. Park needs some work but for a one nights stay we are satisfief. Dome of the really poor reviews need to relax, enjoy the National Park and Medora which is in the middle of nowhere, what do they expect.

This is a place to park the TT, unhook, and go see the sights of the National Park and other activities Medora has to offer outside of the campground. Check-in was easy; staff we encountered were pleasant, back-in assist by staff was spot on; everything worked fine (W/S/E); they do pack everyone in snug! It was amazing to see these guys park the big rigs in some tight spots! The sites may be tight but there is plenty of room to maneuver the back in.

Staff very helpful. Sites are close together and would be really tight during the busy season. We were here end of September and mid week - not too cramped. Sites level. Nice metal picnic tables. Bathrooms clean and nice. Laundry clean and nice. Washer $2 and dryer $1. Best dryers they ran for 40 minutes. Free WiFi which reached campsites without booster.

Friendly staff. Clean facilities. Great hot water. You can walk to town... but most of it was closed for the season.

Older campground but clean. The staff was super nice! The town is close by and was really nice to walk around. We had a site by the road so we did hear some road traffic but not much and once we had the fan on did not hear it.
