Absolutely worth a visit! Incredible compound: the Space Museum is actually better than the one in Washington DC, with clear panel descriptions. Of course the Spruce goose is a highlight and you get to go inside! Plan for at least an hour to two hours.
The Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is best known as the home of the world’s largest wooden flying boat, the ”Spruce Goose,” the SR-71 “Blackbird,” the Titan II SLV Missile and the P-38 “Lightning.” In addition, there are more than 200 historic aircraft, spacecraft and exhibits on display, along with Oregon’s largest IMAX® 3D theater. The hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily except when it is closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and Easter. The Museum facility is located at 500 NE Captain Michael King Smith Way, across the highway from the McMinnville Airport and about three miles southeast of McMinnville, Ore., on Highway 18. Regular visitor admission is required. Call 503-434-4180 for more information, and visit www.evergreenmuseum.org.
The Museum campus is also be home to the Evergreen Wings & Waves Water Park. Featuring four water slides, a massive wave pool, water structures and an interactive children’s museum, Wings & Waves is the place to be in the summer!
Worth the time to stop. Lots of history and information. The most fascinating sight is the Spruce Goose. You just can't imagine how big it is until you actually see it.
This place was amazing! The wife n kids weren't too excited to go, but one step inside and they were off n running. The amount of history and neat aircraft keeps you busy for hours checking it all out. Seeing the look on the kids faces when they came up to the towering Titan II was great. Something we didn't know until we were at the counter tip buy tickets, is that active military gets in free! It was well worth the 96$ it would have cost, but I am thankful it was free.
