Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on October 13, 2022We came across this place by accident, and loved it. The spaces are enormous, level, well kept, have covered picnic areas and firepits. We got a spot on the lake too. It's a very big park, but almost no one there!

The main campground at John Martin Res is the Lake Hasty Campground, right on the small reservoir below the big dam. The Point Campground is an overflow area with no hook-ups, overlooking the main reservoir. This review applies to the Lake Hasty Campground.
The campground is level with gravel roads and pads. Some sites are pull-thru. Water spigots are scattered around the loop roads. The RV sites are good-sized. Some sites are well shaded and others have no shade. There is a loop of sites with tent pads, without much shade.
We went in mid-week during early May. The campground was quiet and mostly empty.
We had one significant problem. This area hosts Miller Moths, which emerge from the ground in the spring, and then migrate westward. We saw no moths until our last evening, when we were inundated. We think they wintered in the gravel in the campground, and came out right under our trailer. The people in the site next to us hardly saw any, but we killed dozens inside our trailer. Even when we got home, they kept coming out of their hiding places. We were killing moths for several weeks. So I recommend staying away during the first half of May.

Stayed at Lake Hasty Campground over Memorial Day 2017. Campground was full. $24/day + $7/day park entrance fee = $31/day.
When you drop into the Lake Hasty campgeound, signal is not really usable. One bar of 3G/1x occassionally... not really useful because it bounces on and off. If you go back up the hill to the main office, there's 4 bars.
Went to look at Petroglyphs just East of the campground (neaaintenence sheds) and almost stepped on a rattlesnake 3 steps from the road. Be careful with your pets!

We loved it here and wish we could have stayed longer (our favorite campground on our trip so far). We were lucky to get a waterfront site with a great view over the reservoir and the dam. Our site was well shaded with a constant, nice breeze. With temperatures in the 80's we still didn't need to use the air-conditioner. No water hookup but water was available nearby. The bathrooms were clean and had pay showers. Dump station on the way out. Our back-in site was fairly level and gravel. We saw a lot of wildlife, including a couple of large snakes - one with a diamond pattern on it - in the grass down by the water.

Really liked it here. Had a back in site next to the lake and the sunsets were awesome. Stayed here in the early October and not that busy except for a holiday weekend in October. Place for Q-dog to go swimming. Except for the limited internet for some, this is a peaceful place. Most sites were well spaced. Also has very reasonably priced laundry on site.

OK campground with electric only provided. Quite windy while I was there. It is $28 per night plus an $8 access fee. I personally didn't think it was worth it.

Our site was pretty and covered in trees. We had a lot of room between neighbors. The price per night we found to be steep based on electric only. Biting flies and tons of mosquitos were a turn off but not the parks fault. We experienced a tornado warning and the camp host did a great job corralling is all into the bathhouses to wait it out. Internet and cell service were spotty at best.

Nice campground but campsites 1-29 are kind of separate and have very few trees. I wish I had known as it was very hot when we were here. It’s nice enough and in this part of Colorado there aren’t many choices. We were just passing through on our way to the mountains.

This was a convenient one-night stop along our route, but we were pleasantly surprised to find the big trees and nicely spaced sites at Lake Hasty Campground. Sites 35-38 back up to the small lake and would be my recommendations when choosing among the lakeside sites. We had shade at site 38 on the end. Sites along the outside of the loop are spacious and shady, and the road that borders the campground didn't seem too busy. We camped at site 90 on our way home--it was a long pull-through adjacent to a grove of trees. Some leveling required, but nothing crazy. We saw a flock of wild turkeys, and I understand the birding here is excellent during migration seasons. No water at the sites--just electricity. We didn't explore the other side of the dam, which would be more suited for boating, etc. Our sites had electricity, no water. The dump station was one of the nicest we've encountered in our travels.

This was a 1 night stop over, and the pictures I saw didn’t do it Justice. It’s a beautiful campground. Although we stayed in the outer area where there are no trees, there are plenty of spots that are covered in trees. We swam in the lake, and the view of the dam is so cool. It is electric only, but there is water readily available, and dump sites, so a day or 2 here is a breeze. Loved it!
