“enjoy the inn's history & proximity to the Marietta Square”
In the 1890s, the M.G. Whitlock House, the famous 150 room Marietta resort, burned to the ground. Before the Civil War, it was a popular showplace for tourists taking the train from the hot coastal towns, like Savannah, to the cooler foothills of Georgia. The resort occupied nearly the whole block of Whitlock Avenue where now stands The Whitlock Inn, a private residence and the Trust Company Bank. After months of planning with local contractors, state and federal historic preservation experts, the painstaking restoration and construction process began. Since opening in 1994, the Whitlock Inn has become the recommended place for social events such as weddings and receptions, dinner parties, and corporate entertaining. Visitors today enjoy the Inn’s proximity to the Marietta Square, live theater, antique shopping, Civil War battlefields, carriage rides and wonderful restaurants.
