“Stay in a teepee or a vintage trailer!”

El Cosmico is an 18 acre nomadic hotel and campground in Marfa, Texas. In keeping with the belief that life should be a balance of adventure and do-nothingness we offer shelter, occasional entertainment, opportunity for learning/doing/making, and access to the majesty of the high plains desert. From its wide open spaces to the vast canopy of stars above, El Cosmico provides temporary liberation from the built world. It is second home to intrepid travelers and wanderers from all corners of the planet. Accommodations at El Cosmico include renovated vintage trailers, safari and scout tents, Sioux-style tepees, and tent campsites. The property also offers several communal spaces for guests – a hammock grove, an outdoor kitchen and dining area, a community lounge and mercantile, an outdoor stage, a reading room. We rent wood-fired hot tubs as the burn ban allows, and bikes for exploring Marfa. El Cosmico also serves as a hub for occasional happenings that elevate the mind, body and creative spirit, and is a great place to get your hands dirty when the need arises. Our evolving program of workshops and retreats includes building, cooking and art classes, songwriting workshops and more. In addition to the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love held annually each fall, El Cosmico hosts concerts, movies, art and cultural events throughout the year.

I'm no hippie, but the communal vision was so charming that I felt like I'd stepped into a latter-day Peaceable Kingdom that was on the verge of erupting into a very cool party. There were the cross-country bicyclist lovebirds swinging between elms in your hammock grove, a couple of kids drinking Topo Chico and listening to music in your lean-to kitchen, and others hanging out in teepees and yurts. http://fathomaway.com/postcards/chill/love-letter-el-cosmico-marfa-texas/

My husband, 7 month old son and I stayed at El Cosmico for a night while in Marfa. We stayed in the Vagabond trailer. It was a great experience! The staff was friendly. The Jo's coffee they provided was a nice touch. Loved hanging out in the hammocks and on our trailer deck. A few cons were a long walk to your spot, especially the trailers and the trailers (or at least the Vagabond) could use a bit more maintenance. Overall though we totally enjoyed our stay, it's a super rad place in a fun little town.

So expensive. One night is 117 dollars for 5 people bringing their own tent. Not worth it.

The epitome of glamping. We stayed in a safari ten that was complete with electricity, outlets, and heated blankets. The facilities are exceptionally clean. Try and book a teepee or yurt if you can.

My mom and I stopped at El Cosmico on our road trip across the US last summer. When I booked it, I was under the impression from the photos that it was tucked a little ways away from the main road and we would feel somewhat secluded. Our teepee was nicely appointed and the bed was very comfortable. We did not get to get into the "communal" feel of the place too much because we were there during a stormy day, but the grounds seemed like they motivated some nice community. The place looks fantastic and the layout gives you some privacy while still allowing for mingling with other campers/guests if you'd like.

My only real complaint was the fact that the property is sandwiched between a pretty busy road and train tracks that have late night trains going through town. It was very noisy for a desert night. I really wasn't expecting that at all.

It's really easy to get into town (El Cosmico is barely outside of it) and it was simple to get to the viewing area for the Marfa lights (a must see!).

Mafia was one of the highlights on our road trip across the states.
All the vintage trailers and teepees were booked so we camped at El Cosmico.
The outdoor showers were cool. Spent some solid hours in the hammock.
We also hired bikes to explore the town.
Wish we spent more time here. Will definitely be back!

A perfect example of why Marfa has such a sweet reputation as being a fun and funky place. They have all sorts of awesome music festivals and parties here. Don't expect the world's most luxurious accommodations, but this place is still AWESOME!

As if the Mysterious Marfa Lights, art galleries, good food, and beautiful countryside aren't enough to encourage a detour to Marfa...there's El Cosmico. A fantastical mix of yurts, trailers, tepees, and tents are available for rent and tent camping is welcomed on the property. There is an outdoor community kitchen, numerous hammocks, and various places to relax. The outdoor showers are certainly something to write home about, 2 or 3 times at least. The Lobby House and Provision Co. is where you check in, grab complimentary coffee in the morning, and pick up a beer or souvenir.

They welcomed us to park our bus in a quiet side of the parking lot and for a mere 15 bucks were granted access to all of the amenities...shower houses, the kitchen, and of course morning coffee. They do not have hook ups for RVs, but with their fantastic facilities it hardly matters.

Unlike the previous reviewer, we were charged $15 per person plus a $10 dog fee (per night!), so we paid $40 /night to park in a dirt parking lot. We were able to use the outdoor bathrooms and showers, which looked pretty cool, but we were a bit cold showering outside in mid-March (and they weren't very private). There is wifi in the lobby, which was a bit slow at times, but the lobby is super cute, so we sat in there to do some work from time to time. They have free coffee every morning as well. This is a MARFA hot spot, so there was a concert or two that went on while we were here, and it was fun to walk around the grounds and lay in the hammocks. They also have a big outdoor community kitchen and grills for those who want to cook outside. You can walk into town from here, which is what we mostly did. They will give you a list of places to check out when you get here- there are a few good spots for drinks, a dive bar, a burrito truck, etc. The beer garden was our favorite! We were also here the weekend of a music festival in MARFA, so during the week it was quiet and peaceful and on the weekend, hundreds of hipsters moved in with their tents and were fairly annoying and a bit loud.

Overall, this is a cool place, just expensive for RV camping.

A teepee and trailer hotel in Marfa that allows dry camping in their parking lot. The $15/person overnight fee includes free coffee in the morning, use of their outdoor hammocks, kitchen and showers. $30 felt a bit steep for dry camping, but for free coffee and walk/bike-ability to town, plus the awesome grounds, we were fine forking it over for a few nights.
