A typical national park campground. Nicely wooded. Separation/privacy between sites is adequate, not great.
Not all sites are suitable for RVs, but there are plenty that are. This is an underutilized National Park; I was able to snag a site late on a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer. There is one reservable loop, and the rest are first-come first-served.

The registration system is pretty ridiculous. Rather than registering and clipping your pay stub to your post, you place your stub in a filing grid at the front of the campground, which means that the official instructions are that you have to drive around and find an empty site you want, leave something in the site to let others know it's occupied (but don't park!), then go back and check that the site isn't already paid for, register, and go back and park. I skipped a step and found an unoccupied site, unhitched and went back to pay only to find that someone had already registered the site. (There was a very small rock in the middle of the pad, which I guess they thought sufficed as an "occupied" marker!). So DO follow their "don't park until you've paid" instructions to save yourself a huge hassle!

Campfire programs and ranger-led hikes originate from here, along with a trail that skirts the beautiful blue-green Skagit River and leads to the Visitor Center.

Best surprise: Excellent, fast Verizon LTE reception! It's all dry camping and nearly all the sites are heavily shaded, so not a good option for depending on solar. Dump station and fresh-water fill-up on site.

Both Olympic National Park and North Cascades National Park use a very strange campsite selection & payment system. It involves extra work for campers but must somehow reduce the workload for the rangers. This campground is just south of the Seattle City Light company town of Newhalem and is newer than any of the other federal campgrounds in the area. Paved loop roads, paved site parking, and wonderful raised, level tent pads if you're tent camping. Not water or electric, but a dump and water is available. Super fast Verizon!

Don't miss the short hike to the falls behind the powerhouse in Newhalem.

We were here mid June and the place was nearly empty.

A national park campground at the beginning of August? It must be swarming with people. Probably staying up until 2am partying. This is gonna suck. Nope. Newhalem Campground is awesome. The sites are level, fresh asphalt, and have plenty of old growth trees between them. The only thing I could think of negatively: 1) no nearby town with decent groceries or restaurants (Marblemount is tiny; Newhalem is tinier) 2) no showers. But for how cheap this campground is -- and how easy it was to find a spot in the middle of summer, I can't complain.

Bathrooms: clean!
Verizon LTE: 4 bars!
Nearby creek to cool off in: check!

We had a reservation at Newhalem Creek Campground in the North Cascades National Park on site C-106 for 5 days. The campground has a lot of large, well-spaced, wooded, paved sites that will accommodate larger RV's. There are no utilities. Restrooms have flush toilets but no showers. With a senior pass, we paid $6/night. The campground was quiet and the non-reservation loops A and B looked to have availability nightly. For a NP campground, it was set up very nicely.

This area is all about generating electricity. From the campground, you can hike into the little town of Newhalem and to the Gorge Powerhouse and Ladder Creek Falls. There are tours available through Seattle City Light (SkagitTours.com) that are very popular - make reservations! We were unable to book anything while we were camping there because we did not reserve in advance.

We had decent ATT 4G signal - with our booster, we were able to web surf and catch up on the news.

On our 4th night at the campground, a ranger came around and told us we had to leave by noon the following day as a precaution because the fires were getting closer. We left the following morning with fires visible across the road from the campground.

We have stayed at Newhalem Campround numerous times. It's completely paved with lots of tall trees and moderate separation between campsites.

In late 2015, there was a fire in forest surrounding the campground. Since then, loop C is now closed. Hopefully reopening in 2017. Since the fire, the NPS have made ALL sites reservable online. You might be able to stop in and grab a site for a few nights but chances are the site will be reserved for the weekend. This campground is closed off-season.

There's a great walking and bike path from the campground to the town of Newhalem. From there, you can explore the dam. Lots of other hikes in the North Cascades. The Visitors Center is right up the road from the campground. They'll provide maps and recommendations on hikes.

No hook-ups but there are clean restrooms, trash service, waste dump and fresh water.

We scored a big pull through with no reservations on an August Monday afternoon. This is a very nice campground with paved roads and pads. Good dump station. Nice trails they lead down to the creek which looked more like a river to me.

One of the loops is still closed from the fires last year.

Located walking distance to the north cascade visitor center and numerous hiking trails start in the campground- what more could you want?

Great wooded area, easy access, level sites, dump station available. AT&T fluctuated from 4g to LTE but Verizon worked great the whole time.

Make sure to do the hike behind the electric plant at night- they light up the water fall and it’s really cool and unique!

We stayed here the end of June 2018! :)

The nightly rate of $8 per night is half off using my access pass. Normal rate is $16 per night :)

This National Park campground is nestled in the forest and feels very remote even though it isn't. Walking distance to the visitors center and a short drive into the town of Newhalem.

Make sure you bring supplies with you. The small store in Newhalem is very pricey.

We enjoyed our stay here and cell service was fairly good. Verizon and AT&T were strong with T-Mobile being the weakest. We were able to work using either Verizon or AT&T.

North Cascades National Park is a beauty in itself and its worth staying right in the National Park Campground. You are just miles from some of the most beautiful lake and mountain scenery we've ever seen.

Only downside to this park I would mention is that the campground roads are very narrow. We had some issues backing in our fiver. Although the site was plenty deep the narrow road made it difficult to back in with the "swing" of the truck and fiver.

If you have a longer rig, ours is 38', try to reserve a pull through site. The site across from us would have been perfect, It was about 80 or so feet long however, a 20 foot travel trailer was parked in it. Whatever you do, don't do that; don't reserve a 80 ft spot for a 20' rig, unless there is no other choice. LOL

All in all this campground is great and we will definitely stay again if in the area.

Newhalem Creek Campground is very close to the Northern Cascades National Park visitors' center and the small town of Newhalem. We dry camped in an RV site in Loop C. We arrived on a Thursday evening without reservations and there were just a few sites available for 2 consecutive nights. Loops A and B were heavily wooded and many of the campsites were private. Loop C sustained some damage from a fire a couple of years ago, so some of the sites were not as wooded (including ours). Many of the sites from 86-116 back into the fire-damaged trees. If you attend the evening ranger program to see Ladder Falls at night, this is a very convenient campground.

We stayed here in July 2018. We were in Loop C, site 88. Site was fine, but there is fire damage in this loop so some sites were not very shaded. As it is in many NP campgrounds, there are no hookups and no showers in this campground. It is close to the town of Newhalem and the visitor center. AT&T cell service did not work at our campsite, but had a few bars of LTE near the town of Newhalem.
