Old Stone Fort State Park Campground

Great place to see! Mile and quarter loop can be done quick or slow and shows all the beautiful sites along the big duck and little duck river. I recommend it!!

I visit here a lot! There's a great deal of history here at Old Stone Fort Park. The walls were built by Woodland Indians about 3,000 years ago. During the Civil War, there were gunpowder mills, and later on, a paper mill. On the Little Duck river side, there is a saltpeter cave. It was mined during the Civil War to make gunpowder.

This place was beautiful! We got a trail map at the little museum at the entrance and had a nice leisurely hike around the wall adjacent to the river. The waterfalls were fantastic! It’s a great place to spend an hour or two stretching your legs on a walk, or having a picnic and a swim in the river!

We just stayed here one night. The waterfalls in the area are absolutely beautiful and there is an amazing bridge you have to cross to get to the campsite!
We only had 30amp hookups (which we blew on our 19 degree night with all of our heaters running) but the breaker box is on the opposite side of the water. We had to step over our power chord to get to the campfire every time, which could be dangerous. The bathrooms were pretty dirty, but it was the dead of winter.
If you're looking for a place to hike, see some waterfalls and have your pets out, this is a great place. There were dogs everywhere.
It's also within walking distance of the residence in the area, so you see a lot of locals there.
The hookups are the only thing I would really fuss about. The sites were pretty narrow, but the amount of space you have to spread out is huge and there is even a spot to set up a tent.

We didn't spend a lot of time here as we were passing through, but this seems to be a really nice state park not too far off the highway if you're passing through. We arrived late in the evening (around 9pm) and the campground staff were there to help us. It rained when we stayed, so we didn't see a lot, but our campsite was right on the river. We woke up to a cute young deer sleeping near our campsite under a tree. When you enter, you cross a cool old steel bridge across the river. We'd like to come back and spend more time here, as it looks like an interesting spot.

Love the drive in across the old bridge with the river underneath. Check in was a little confusing you had to go to the welcome center at the end. Good hike from there to a area native Americans had ceremonies. There's a museum there where yo check in it's nice to walk through.

Our site was ok I didn't like the paved slab it was on it was high & stepping down out of the camper was a big step. Other than that it was good, very private. The best site is #21. We had deer walking through our site that's always a plus.

Great place to eat is Jiffy Burger (the best burgers). Everyone was so friendly in there & antiques were cool. American pickers had been there recently. There is a Antique place called Shelton Lane Antiques that is amazing. I have never seen Antiques in such good shape & some restored. It's a little town each building has it's own theme.
Don't forget to go to the Jack Daniels Distillery it's a big place, the tasting is great! in Lynchburg there's a winery with good tastings really liked the Chambourcin.

We found a place to Kayak Fire lake. Nice lake with some islands & inlets there was a small waterfall at the end of one.

Campsites were all in all pretty nice. Only downside was you have to be careful and make sure you don’t book a site that floods. They have a couple that seemed to stay under water the whole time we was there.

We didn’t realize it was Spring Break in Tennessee, but that explained why the park was so full in the middle of the week. Other than that the park was nice. There had been a lot of rain and some of the sites were unusable due to flooding. We also encountered some muddy trails, but enjoyed them just the same. As stated in other reviews you check in at the Visitor center and then drive back to the camp sites. Site was level and wooded. Just across from the rest room/bath house. The bath house was old and some what clean. Some of the wooden benches in shower area had mold growing.
Overall we enjoyed our one night stay. Cell service was ok, no satellite available.

Site 19 is right at the head of a trail .... 18 would be better ! Right now the electrical service is sporadic. We had made reservations for 3 nights but only stayed 2. We had hopes that after the first night of power spikes and outages would be better but after the 2nd night of interrupted sleep and refrigerator on/off we left early. This winter season they are supposed to be getting a complete renovation of the park, sites, electric, bath houses etc.... The Ranger/ Park Manager was very understanding and refunded our 3rd night. After next spring , or when they reopen, it could be a great place to be. It has great potential. The natural beauty is wonderful, trees, waterfalls, river etc.... just the amenities need the updating. If you don't need electricity
( tenting) and don't mind dilapidated bathhouse facilities now is still a great time to camp there.
The landscaping is well maintained. Beautiful natural resource.

Everything was great, sites are a little narrow, at least the one we stayed in, but not really an issue. We did buy wood there, $5 a bunch, but it had less wood in each than what we typically see at Tennessee state park stores. That was really the only disappointment. Really pretty area! You can hear road noise, but that is to be expected since the park is next to a main road right in the city of Manchester. Kids loved it, the whole family had fun!
