“Deli and Ice Cream Parlor”
If great food in a fun filled atmosphere is what you're looking for, Ella's Deli In Madison, Wisconsin is the destination for you. Ella's is a one of a kind treat for kids and adults alike and will be a family favorite. Youngsters will be mesmerized by the animated displays that fill the restaurant from floor to ceiling. Even the glass top tables contain everything from model trains chugging though tiny towns to marble maze races to test your dexterity. The special two-page kids' menu will keep them happy as well. Ranging from the classic choices of cheeseburgers and hot dogs to the matzo ball soup that is sure to be a new favorite, it also includes the Humpty Dumpty sundae. The rest of the family need not worry that they will leave hungry either. Besides being a wonderfully entertaining place to take the kids, Ella's is also a top-notch kosher style deli. Named "Best Deli" by Madison Magazine, the twenty-page deli menus offers something for everyone. Diners may start with one of the numerous different homemade soups including matzo ball, sweet and sour cabbage, and chili. From a lean corned beef sandwich piled high on fresh rye bread, to a delicious garden fresh salad or a hot open faced melt smothered in Swiss cheese, the selection varies so much that there is sure to be something for everyone. Local favorites include the corned beef reuben and the vegetarian burger from the vegetarian page. Even though the generous portions will leave all satisfied, few can resist Ella's twelve page dessert menu. The award winning 'Number One Sundae' combines homemade pound cake grilled to a perfect light brown, topped with three scoops of Ella's own vanilla custard, hot fudge, and whipped cream. The menu also includes seven different banana splits, twenty different flavors of ice cream, and a page of baked specialties. In the spring, summer, and fall no trip to Ella's deli is complete without a ride on the 1927 Parker Carousel. This beautifully restored ride, complete with organ music, is a treat kids won't forget. Whether you're one or one hundred, Ella's Deli offers something for the whole family. This is a can't miss destination if you are in southern Wisconsin.
We tried stopping here for lunch on our way home from our family road trip, only to see they are closed as in shut down. I am so bummed. My grandparents took me here when I was a kid and I was so excited to share it with my kids. I hope they reopen.
This is our favorite place to visit in Madison. Great for kids, and the food is tasty, if a little bit expensive. A visit to the Villas Zoo and Ellas Deli is the perfect day out for a family visit.
It is an amazing place for sensory overload. But, the food is way overpriced and it isn't the cleanest place.

If you are really into Jewish delis, old fashion animatronics, or are a kid, you will love the place. Food was decent, and the shakes pretty good.
Between the obligatory sugar (I recommend the chocolate shakes) you'll consume and the whirring, buzzing animatronics of Ella's Deli, you're sure to have major sensory overload after your visit. If you visit during the summer, don't forget to ride the 1920s carousel out front!
