“A completely free zoo!”
It is our belief that this ambitious campaign and renovation project will truly transform our free Zoo. New exhibits will not only result in significant changes to the physical landscape of the Zoo, but we expect to transform our modest Henry Vilas Zoo into a world class facility for animal conservation. Your continued support will certainly help make these changes possible. As you know, the Henry Vilas Zoo truly belongs to everyone and you have a lot to be proud of at our Zoo. With your gift, you are helping to ensure a wonderful future for this unique community resource for many generations to come. We need your help to keep our free zoo going strong. Discover the many ways you can get involved.
We have been here many times and I will tell you that Henry Vilas Zoo is one of the best FREE zoos in America. Actually, it is the best smaller zoos in America. It is not huge and parking can be really hard to obtain in the summer and weekends. I would highly suggest arriving at 9:30 a.m., when the zoo opens. In all honesty, this is the perfect sized zoo for little children, who can not walk a lot and get cranky after 1-2 hours of viewing. I hate spending $35-$70 for 2 hours, because children burn out. So make a $1.00-$5.00 donation on your way out! Keep this great zoo running!
FREE...and parking is FREE! So it gets a 5 star just for being FREE and a pretty awesome zoo. It is a beautiful zoo with lots of animals. The zoo is small, but again, for a FREE zoo, it is a pretty awesome zoo! I love how close you can get to many of the animals! This zoo rocks!
Very nice zoo. It is the perfect size to spend a few hours without having to walk all over creation. Plenty of very nice exhibits. The grounds were very well kept. And you can't beat the price.
For a free zoo, this is pretty great. It's not overwhelming but they have most animals that anyone would be itching to see. My favorite is the wolf exhibit. There is a great park to have a picnic in, too.
The red pandas are the cutest things ever!!!
Great little zoo in pretty Madison, WI. We stopped here to stretch our legs on a road trip from VA to MN. It was small enough to make it a quick one-hour stop but we could have spent more time here. There's a large park right next to the zoo.
When I was trying to describe this small zoo to my grandmother, she was amazed that not only does it have more animals than the Jackson MS Zoo, but for free! I can't back this comparison up, but I do love coming here at lest once a year with my family. An amazing experience!
