Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on February 23, 2024Friendly and helpful staff. No frills pit stop, everyone one we met there was on their way somewhere. Two small dog parks and one small playground. The staff mentioned it is under new ownership as of this February. They did not have our site available due to something being out of order so they downgraded our site and gave us a 50% discount. If you need a pit stop, this will do nicely, not anywhere I would plan to spend much time. Our downgraded site did not even have a picnic table.
This KOA Journey is designed for short term stops. Not much to do early but we enjoyed the pool and just having some down time in our traveling. The sites were long and wider than most. Staff was very friendly! There were restaurants and shopping within 10 miles.
We only stayed at this KOA overnight while traveling, but the campground was nice. Roads were easy to navigate, 60' paved pull-through site was just long enough for our motorhome and tow car (without disconnecting), decently wide and very level. Owner escorted us to our site. AT&T and Verizon worked, and the campground WiFi worked pretty well too (campground was half empty, which may have helped). There were a few trees here and there, but in general it was wide open. We had some noise from the interstate but it wasn't bad at all, and we were in one of the sites closest to the road. We'll stay here again when traveling through the area.

Not sure of exact site number but it was on the second row from entrance a pull through which put our back window towards I-95. As you can figure the road noise was constant ALL NIGHT LONG and our unit was a rear bed Airstream.
There is a large light out front of the billboard at entrance and it was sorta pointing toward the camping area which make for quite a bit of light in the area at night. :( A spot further back in park towards back on the spot on left side of map might we less noise and less light.
With that said the place was GREAT.. The new owners bought the place sometime in 2017 and decided to go with KOA, which has been doing a lot of changes.
Sidenote on KOA: recently over the past several year I believe KOA has expanded the type of RV places they have taken into the "family". They have the "Resort" types, "holiday" and some are called "journey" type which are not as well equipped with amenities, close to major hwys and more for short stays of day to three or for the one night stay. This Lumberton KOA is considered a "Journey" campground..
We were there for a long weekend for our Airstream Club monthly rally for unit 161. They do have a nice clubhouse/meeting area with small kitchen adn large room with tables and chairs were were we attended several seminars on RV maintenance. If you own an airstream check o see what you local chapter is and join. WBCCI.org, It a great way to learn more about your AS unit and camping with friends. (commercial for Airstream Club over now!!)
Overall the campground is very nice. The bath houses, especially the one in clubhouse, was very nice. New tile, fixtures etc. The sites are good size but the grass etc is on all that.. you can tell this is a older campground but undergoing some upgrades. The hookups were new and worked well. The sites are mostly level pull through and some were extra long for like big Class A with toad so there was not need to unhook for the nights stay.
They had just gotten a new metal fire pit custom made by local welder with KOA cut out in metal for the "community fire pit". We were the first ones to use it and we did most every night as the weather was nice and cool in mid March 2018. (see photo) they did bring out some wood but we were a group of 20 units there at the time so it may not be a thing they do all the time.
The onsite store was nice, clean and had some stuff and the best part was Staff.. both the owners and the other staff were nice, helpful and really made you feel welcome and let you know this was a work in progress.
As a overnight or several night place it fit the bill which is why KOA call this a Journey.
Just down the road in SC be on the lookout for CHEAP fuel.. I use gasbuddy app and generally at exit 191 you can find some the lowest gas prices in the area so don't fill up in NC if heading South, go to SC and save .30 per gallon most times.

Nice park off 95. Large pull through and they escorted to site. Newer patio sites very nice with new picnic tables some with fire pits. Nice landscaping. Nice nature trail through shaded trees along creek. Sign said Dangerous wildlife but we just saw squirrels and turtles. Was concerned about satellite via Direct TV due to trees but satellite pointed southwest and reception good.
Only negative was that as we needed to work through some issues with out tire minder with the rep we didn’t check out at 1130. At 1150 we got a call from the front desk reminding us of checkout time and wanting to charge us an additional $10 for late checkout. I told them we were hooking up and would be out in 10-15 min. They checked and “graciously” agreed not to charge us as long as we were out quickly. Note that it was a Monday morning and the park only had about a 10% occupancy. Understand they were enforcing the rules but thought it was a bit overkill.

While on the road we called (after office hours) and found the recording to be very helpful indicating they did have available sites that night. Arrival and late check in was a breeze.
The next morning I went to the office to complete our transaction and found the staff (new owners) to be kind and professional. We spoke about a number of the improvements they were making in the off season as they had recently bought the CG. Before I could get back to my site they found a pretty serious leak in the supply to the entire CG and had to shut down water before we could shower. Customer service was fantastic as they offered “compensation” making this inconvenience more palatable.

We booked this KOA as an overnight stop along I-95. Our pull-through site was level enough that we did not have to unhitch our truck, but we would have had just enough space if we had done so. The sites were close together; if we had neighbors, their hook-ups would have been right at our picnic table. There were two fenced Kamp K9 areas which is great for a RV park of this size. We did not use any of the facilities but we were given codes for the bathrooms, showers, and laundry. Though the Interstate is clearly visible, the noise wasn't too bad. Cell signals for both AT&T and Verizon were strong as well as the park's wifi. There are a few nice patio sites, but we would only justify paying for those if we were planning to stay for a longer period of time. We would stay here again.

Nice place to take a break. Sites are typical RV park sites, not paved. Trees are on some sites. Small Fenced dog area, strict rules on pets. The best? The bath house is bomb! If you come be sure to check them out!
