“the closest you'll get to a Nuclear Test site”
This is the site of the Project Gnome nuclear test. The idea was to explode a nuclear bomb underground and use the steam heat to generate electricity. Somehow the project heads forgot to account for the steam being Radioactive and therefore useless. The hole was covered and a plaque sits in it's spot.
This site is no longer there and the entire area is owned by oil/gas companies. They are drilling all over the area and there is a no trespassing sign at the beginning of the county road entrance.
I drove through the site yesterday it took me about 2 hours to find the actual monument, I have the Longitude and latitude if you have sat nav lock it into your device it will take you straight to it. I did not see one no trespassing sign as this is on a public roadway. They cannot own the nuclear test site that,s owned by the government.
Project Gnome Atomic Site Still Active. It is not removed, don't trust the coordinates on the GPS Picture. Roadtrippers App Took Us Right to It. Not Much to see, but it is a obscure piece of history. Small Monument and The Well Bore Thats Sealed off. Rough Road to It.
Wasn’t even there, took me to the middle of a rundown neighborhood.
